Despite being announced at E3 in 2013, things have gone very quiet over the console versions of Warhammer 40,000: The Eternal Crusade
. If, as a fan, you are itching to return to the fantasy world created by Games Workshop and the above title isn't progressing quickly enough, perhaps you would be more interested in the new title that has been announced by Swedish developer Fatshark, who is responsible for the recent Escape Dead Island
.Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide
is a co-op action adventure that combines melee combat and shooting from the first-person perspective. Set in then End Times, players assume the role of one of five heroes who must work together to protect the city of Ubersreik from an invasion of Skaven.
The time of mortals is ending, and the reign of Chaos draws ever closer. The Dark Gods are at last united in a singular purpose, loosing their madness across the world as never before. In the Empire of Sigmar, Karl Franz's gaze is focused on the incursion of the savage northmen, but it is not the only threat. As the Chaos moon Morrslieb waxes full, shrill voices echo through tunnels gnawed far beneath the Empire's cities, and a Skaven host swarms towards the surface. It emerges first in the city of Ubersreik, a screeching mass that consumes all before it. Soon Ubersreik is a charnel-town, drowning beneath the malevolent shadow of the Horned Rat.
Yet even in the darkest times, there are always champions to light the way. As Ubersreik cowers, five heroes, united by capricious fate, carry the fight to the rat-men. It remains to be seen whether they have the strength to survive, let alone work together long enough to thwart the invaders. One truth, however, is beyond all doubt: should these five fall, then Ubersreik will fall with them.
Each of the five heroes will have their own special abilities, gear, personalities and play-styles, meaning that each will play a unique role. The city of Ubersreik is just the beginning, as the battle will take players across a range of environments, such as the Magnus Tower and the very depths of the Under Empire. The above trailer may not have given you much clue as to what the game entails, so take a look at the following screenshots if you want to glean some more information.
The title is due to be released for Xbox One through the ID@Xbox scheme in the second half of 2015.
