Wrestling in video games has for the most part been limited to WWE and TnA sponsored games, until now. A new contender is about to enter the ring, one that recognizes the worldwide appeal of Mexican pop-culture.
Slang, a company that is focused on bringing Latin cultural elements to the world through fun and innovative gaming experience, have announced the release of their first effort. Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring
will be hitting the shelves on October 12, 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The game, based on the Mexican AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración) wrestling league, intends to be both an enthralling single player experience with a unique story line and a competitive multiplayer game. It will allow players to create their own character or battle with friends using one of more than 30 real life luchadores from the AAA league.
While the game was designed by Slang, and will be their first game release, development was handed over to Immersion Games for the 360 and PS3. This is what they had to say about the game when ask how it will differ from others on the market:
Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring offers innovative elements as well as those that will be familiar to fans. We’ve taken some mechanics from the old AKI as well as some from games such as Metal Gear. We have incorporated a lot of what has come before and then innovated from there. This mixture, added to the wide variety of fighting styles and the ability to create characters, matches and rules, and the easy to pick-up and place mechanics allows this game to stand on its own. Trust me, the game is easy to enjoy, but it packs enough variety and increasingly difficult battles to keep those diehard fans interested.
Fans of the sport will delight in the fact that a great deal of effort has been made to maintain the energetic and high flying antics of Mexican wrestling as well as the game rules and traditions. One of the online modes will be máscara contra máscara (mask vs. mask) in which the loser must endure the humiliation of being unmasked.
Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring coming to Xbox 360, October 12th 2010.
