The Good Mood Creators' Mekazoo
is a 2D platformer that puts players in the midst of a mysterious mekasphere. An armadillo has woken up to discover that his friends have been transformed into "gigantic mekanimal bosses". If these bosses can be defeated, they return to their original mekanimal selves (and become playable characters). Together with his four friends, the mekanimals that must defeat the insectoid army and restore order to the mekasphere.
Players have a pair of mekanimals available at any one time, meaning that the player can choose which character is best for the situation. Each of the five has its own skills that allow it to reach areas that would otherwise be inaccessible to the others. Here they are:
"Swiftly rolls around on the ground, accelerating down hills and ramping off terrain. Charges up a boost that launches it at ridiculous speeds and destroys insectoid robots."
"Hops quickly over small obstacles, and acrobatically flips off of walls and ceilings. Uses its tongue to reach out and swing from mechanised bugs, dismantling them as it flips away."
"Bounces off the ground, walls and ceilings at a constant rhythm. Rapidly stomps towards the ground to crush robotic insects, and leap high into the air."
"Moves heavily along the ground, scaling walls and ceilings with sharpened cybernetic claws. Slashes and stomps through mechanical pests that dare to get in the way."
"Gracefully glides through the air on mechanical wings making any challenge a breeze. Ignites its boosters to chain through unsuspecting bugs from any angle."
The platforming takes place in a side-scrolling 3D world. Whenever the path turns, the dynamic camera will turn with them to maintain the side-scrolling view. This also has the advantage of providing new vantage points for the environments and enemies. The developer recently attended San Francisco's GDC and will be appearing at SXSW this weekend. Here is the trailer that they took to these conferences with the latest gameplay.
Will you rid the world of insectoids and giant mekanimals when the game is released on Xbox One during the latter part of this year?
