Playtonic, a new studio made up of ex-Rare employees, has announced that their first title will be a 3D platformer adventure in the style of the classic Banjo-Kazooie
. And they should know; they're some of the veteran devs who first paired the dim-witted bear and the backpack-residing bird back in 1998. The new game has been given the working title name of Project Ukulele
and the studio will be launching a Kickstarter in May to help support the project and expand its scope. As Gavin Price, managing director and creative lead states:
Our team’s passion for our past games and the 3D platformer genre lead directly to the birth of Playtonic. Through Project Ukulele fans will finally get to see those pent-up ideas and passion become reality. Since the announcement of our studio the reaction from the community has been absolutely incredible. Through consultation with them we've decided to greatly expand the scope of our project with the launch of a Kickstarter program. By working together with fans we're confident we’ll be able to create a game that not matches their expectations, but one which hops, flips and soars above them.
To give us a taste of what to expect from the game, they've released some accompanying concept art showing locations and characters.
Details such as platforms and release windows are currently unknown, but we'll be sure to provide updates on Project Ukulele
as the game takes shape.
