Last week Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal asked their fans around the world to tune in to a three day Twitch event and to follow #cantkillprogress on Twitter where they would make announcements for upcoming titles that they are working on. After hours of anticipation and watching a guy pace around in a secluded room via a channel on Twitch called Cantkillprogress, Square Enix has finally confirmed that there will be a follow up to the hit Deus Ex: Human Revolution
, titled Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
When viewers go to the channel they see a young man in what appears to be a secluded room where he is held prisoner and occasionally taunted by the guards watching over him. On the final day that the stream ran, there was a countdown clock that would ultimately ask Twitch viewers to make a vote as to whether or not the prisoner should resist the enemy forces watching him. When the vote comes in for the character to resist, he quickly shows his captors that he's been "augmented" and it's revealed that his captors are terrorists that then follow through on an attack that they were planning.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea that resulted in the death of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations. This event has created a huge divide between those who have augmentations, and those who do not. Amongst this emotional turmoil are various factions looking to manipulate the public by twisting public opinion of augmentation to further their own agenda and hide the truth of what really happened.
You will once again play as Adam Jensen, the protagonist of the story. He sports a new suite of augmentations and will contend with a new threat of terrorists, which is likely to make for some amazing gameplay that only the next generation of consoles can provide. Take a look at the action-driven trailer below as the voiced-over narrator, Adam Jensen exclaims "The world is different now. The old rules no longer apply."
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
will be coming to an Xbox One near you and a release date has yet to be announced. Much more news regarding this franchise is likely to come around in the near future.
