TA Gaming Stats - April 13th to 19th 2015

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period April 13th to 19th 2015.

Welcome to the stats for the middle of April here on TA. To celebrate the release of Mortal Kombat X this week here in the treehouse, I put my Ewok helpers the Statisticles into a fighting tournament to see who would emerge the winner. Fur was pulled, bones were broken and numbers were crunched, but eventually a victor was named. Me. It was me. After hours of watching the little guys going at each other, I got bored and unleashed my animality on them all. Well, my pet rancor.

Games Started
69,667 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 104,399 games between them (2,095 different games).

Two new releases lead the table this week with the critically very well received (including by us) Mortal Kombat X pulling in a decent over 18,700 in first and the indie title Goat Simulator grabbing second with nearly 5,700.

Recent free-to-play release continues to hold a high position in third though it drops from 7,300 to under 3,800 this week. Free titles Child of Light, Pool Nation FX and Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious sit in the middle of the table.

Sales put Defense Grid 2 in seventh with just under 1,900 starters whilst new EA Access title NHL 15 climbs up from tenth to eighth.

This week saw the mid-month "Games with Gold" changeover and both 360 titles on offer, Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360), take the top spots. Interestingly, the lesser known of the two titles leads with over 4,400 starters whilst 2013's Assassin outing takes second with over 3,200. Other recent freeness follows them up leaving new release Goat Simulator (Xbox 360) to settle for sixth with over 350 starters, around a sixteenth of what the One version pulled in.

Although its freeness is now over, Terraria (Xbox 360) still pulls in hugely more starters than anything else on XBLA. It gets over 1,200, down from last week's almost 2,800. The rest of the table doesn't give us any revelations, with a bunch of the free and/or easy titles with quite low numbers.

New releases!!! Sorry, it just gets me very excited when something new appears on these tables. It's such a rare occurrence. There was a period a few months ago when we were being spoiled with them, but it's been pretty quiet since then. This week we get Halo: Spartan Strike (Win 8). It shows up the rest of the table with around 430 starters. The rest? Same old.

Top Windows Games Started

It's the same story on WP with Make It Rain: The Love of Money (WP) finally getting pushed down the table after months at the top. It helps that that game drops from 370 to under 240 starters, but it still would've lost out with Halo: Spartan Strike (iOS) grabbing 420. Elsewhere, sale title Rayman Jungle Run (WP) grabs fifth with 80 starters.

Games Completed
10,141 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 15,905 games between them (1,642 different games).

Easy freeness still leads on the One, as Forza F&F and Child of Light take first and second. New release Goat Simulator also proves fairly easy to finish (as long as you can master Flappy Goat). 15% of players have completed it so far and the first week's 530 puts it in third here. Easy titles rule most of the rest of the table, as well as games with recent DLC, like Far Cry 4 and Sunset Overdrive.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

It's a similar story here as Forza F&F leads ahead of Goat Simulator, which this time takes second with over 60 completions. Strangely enough, the completion percentage on the 360 is much higher at almost 25%. Army of Two: Devil's Cartel is a fairly easy completion too with almost 15% of players having finished it. All the new players' completions puts it in fifth with 40.

Top Xbox 360 Games Completed

XBLA doesn't give us a huge amount to look at again, but Terraria does climb from ninth with under 30 completions to fifth with over 30.

Top Xbox Live Arcade Games Completed

With a 10% completion percentage, Halo: Spartan Strike manages to take second place with over 10 completions. Interestingly, Halo: Spartan Assault (Win 8) also appears in fifth as people work to finish it before embarking on the new one.

Top Windows Games Completed

The WP version of Halo: Spartan Strike has a lower completion percentage of 5% than the W8 version so doesn't appear here. That allows Make It Rain to continue to lead. Hopefully as more people finish it, it'll pop up to take the top spot away from the camper.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
129,577 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 2,250,429 achievements online between them (68,862 different achievements).

Mortal Kombat sweeps the table with achievements for do a whole variety of different things in the game, from fatalities, to jumping, to using old ladies as weapons.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

As the most started game, Army of Two was always going to do pretty well here, but it almost manages the clean sweep. AC Black Flag manages to sneak one achievement into third to disrupt it.

Top Xbox 360 Achievements Won

It's another Terraria clean sweep on XBLA.

Top Xbox Live Arcade Achievements Won

Halo: SS grabs seven places on the table, with the remaining three going to Solitaire and Jackpot

Top Windows Achievements Won

Although Halo: SS was the most started game and manages to claim the top spot, Make it Rain still sweeps the remaining nine. Though it doesn't get all ten for once, which pleases me.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

We've had three weeks of usually lesser genres taking the top spot now as Action leads thanks to MKX, Goat Simulator and Halo: SS. Role-Playing follows thanks to Neverwinter. After a while above the normal leaders, Racing now slips behind Shooter and Action-Adventure into fifth.
