XBLA Sales Figures

At True achievements we all love stats don't we? I mean we've even got our very own stats tab to ponder over our achievement progression and forum wittering. It's just a way for us to show how well (or not) we are doing compared to the next gamer.

Well I guess it's the same for Mircosoft and the only way they can gauge their XBLA success is by how many copies each title sells. So it's good news for us that the the people at gamerbyte.com record the popularity of XBLA titles. They do it by recording new inclusions on the game's leaderboards. It's a pretty accurate way to determine whats hot and whats not.

So after reading these stats it's Capcom who will sleep well in the knowledge that Dead Rising: Case Zero had 499,683 new gamers post their scores on the leaderboard in September. Capcom, who claims it has sold over the 500,000 mark, will be proud that this is the best result of an XBLA title since Battlefield 1943.

The resurrection of Sonic's glory days continued with Sonic Adventure, a Dreamcast/Game Cube classic, netting over 15,000 sales in the first week. It will be interesting to see how this does compared to this weeks release of Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. DeathSpank: Thongs Of Virtue also faired well netting over 18,000 since its release on 22nd September.

The Austrian developer Sproing produced a shocking result with Dance! It's Your Stage, with only 647 people registered on the leaderboard. I wouldn't hold your breath for a sequel!

Toy Soldiers produced a brilliant result from its time as Deal Of The Week, netting sales over 20,000. Galaga Legions also faired well froms its inclusion in its reduced price week.

With Dead Rising: Case Zero doing so well, it might well pave the way for more XBLA titles to offer a glimpse of what's to come from their retail twins. The cynical amongst us would say it's no more than a glorified demo we have to pay for, but that's a whole different debate...
