Medieval Slasher Hellraid Put On Hold

By Chewie, 1 year ago
Developer Techland has announced in a Facebook post that their medieval swords-and-sorcery first person slasher Hellraid has been indefinitely put on hold. The game was originally teased back in 2012 after the team behind Dead Island (Xbox 360) created a mod for that game to freeze zombies and hack at them with big giant swords, and thought it would make a good game in its own right. Hellraid was then officially announced in 2013 due that year for Xbox 360. Following trailers and screens, the game was then pushed back to 2014 for "more polish". Then in April of 2014 it was announced that it would be coming to Xbox One instead of the 360...in 2015.

Since then, the Techland's other new IP Dying Light was released to some success and it seems that a sequel to that title should be a sure thing. The company's post states that, following some "internal analysis", Hellraid wasn't quite living up to expectations so they've decided to wipe the slate clean and start anew. They follow up that line by stating that development resource would instead be pushed into further work on the Dying Light franchise, which does suggest that "on hold" may mean "not gonna happen".

Were you looking forward to hacking your way through some medieval nasties or are you happier that Dying Light has become the company's primary focus?
