Xbox Game Preview Program Announced

When we speak of ID@Xbox titles, we often mention how they're "currently in Steam Early Access", a program that allows gamers to buy into games before they're finished and help developers finish them by providing feedback and essentially becoming testers. Today the Xbox team revealed a similar program called Game Preview. Launching today with two titles, The Long Dark and Elite: Dangerous, the program will be utilized for future ID titles as well. Other games mentioned that will be included at a later date are Day Z and ION.

Trailers for Elite: Dangerous and Ion also dropped today to give potential early buyers a taste of what's in store.

The Long Dark also released a new trailer of its own today along with more details surrounding the title. Players who purchase the game starting today while it is in Game Preview will have access to the story mode for free when the full game eventually launches. As of now, the survival game has only released its sandbox mode which is what Game Preview players will receive. Season one of its episodic narrative will be released later this year and pave the way for future seasons and more narrative content, according to the developers at Hinterland.

With news of Game Preview, mods in games like Fallout 4, and backwards compatibility, it's apparent the team behind Xbox is hoping to incorporate some of PC gaming's best features.
