It only seems like last year that Blizzard announced its next installation into the demonic series Diablo, Diablo III
. Back when it was announced a number of publications inquired into the possibility of the game hitting the major consoles. It was a collective: We don't know.
From the Guardian UK
(2008), COO of Blizzard Paul Sams:
I don't know yet. A lot of it depends on whether we think the gameplay experience will be the same on console, especially regarding the controls.
(2009), Lead Technical Artist Julian Love:
We've identified that this game Diablo III, of all the games we have, would be easiest to port. But that said we don't have any plans, at this time, to do that.
What we are really trying to do is focus on getting the game out on the PC, that's the platform we are developing on. We just want to get it done and look at that situation later.
So there is always hope. It seems that the current strategy Blizzard was laying out was focus on PC, then perhaps we will push out Diablo III
to consoles later. That is not unheard of. The original Diablo
did make an appearance on the PlayStation 1. Granted it did not offer the online experience Battle.net could provide, it was still something for console owners could still enjoy playing solo.
Blizzard announced today during its WarCraft and Diablo press conference that they had no plans to bring Diablo III
According to VG247
is the same reason they were trumpeting back in 2008:
We’d happily put a game on console if it played well on console,” Brack explained.
