Project Cars 2 Announced

Whilst the paint is still wet on some of the liveries and the tires have hardly had chance to cool down, Slightly Mad Studios has announced the sequel to its critically acclaimed racing sim, Project CARS.

Clearly not resting on their laurels, the team has revealed their ambitions for the continuation of the franchise, and they are, again, aiming high. The track roster is to be increased to over 200 courses in 50 different locations. The title will include loose surface racing on gravel, dirt, mud and snow for the first time. The car list will also be increased to over 200 different vehicles including concept cars, and banned racing cars amongst the 40 different classes that are promised, all of which will be needed to compete in new race events such as rallycross, hill climbs and tougé.

If this sounds daunting, don't panic as the team are aiming to introduce a co-op career mode where you will be able to participate as a teammate driver, spotter, driver-swap or co-pilot. The socializing will not stop there with the driver network returning and online track days bringing players together, not only for single races but for online seasons too. For the more gregarious in the community, there will also be pro-esports functionality giving players the ability to have their online racing seasons complemented with live broadcast and spectator functionality.

For those with a yearning for engineering or spark of creativity, you'll be able to have your own personal, customisable Test Track to tune and test your cars. Additionally, there will be the Project CARS Academy where you'll be able to hone your racing skills and learn race craft and engineering.

The most intriguing goal however is the ability to have real world players take the place of AI controlled drivers in your solo play. How that will be done and how it will work remains to be seen, but it does sound vaguely familiar.

Project Cars 2 will again be community driven and crowd sourced through the World Of Mass Development and naturally at this early stage, there is no known release date.
