Let's Talk with Cw Icecold

By Marc Hollinshead, 2 years ago
Hello everyone and welcome back to another Community Interview! This week, my guest is https://www.trueachievements.com/Cw+Icecold.htm, a German gamer who has a different view of achievements than a lot of people. Let's give a big TA welcome to Cw Icecold!

Marc: Gamertags almost always tell something about their owners. Tell us about yours.

There's nothing really special about my Gamertag. "Cw" stands for my clan 'Correctly way' but I can't even remember why I picked Icecold after it. Maybe because I'm icecold haha.

Marc: How long have you been gaming?

I've been gaming since I was 6 years old. So it's 14 years of gaming right now. My dad bought me a Gameboy Color with Super Mario as first game. Since then, I've been addicted to video games.

Marc: Do others in your family game, or are you a first-generation gamer?

My cousin and me are both first-generation gamers. He's just 12 days older than me and the only one in my family who also plays a lot of games. My sister is a casual gamer. She plays Minecraft or other games on her mobile phone sometimes, but not that much.

Marc: What do your parents/significant other/friends have to say about your gaming?

My parents say that I waste my time with playing video games. Well, I don't think so. It's a hobby like making gaming videos for my YouTube channel.

Marc: I always hate it when people think gaming is just a waste of time. There's a lot more to it when you look underneath the surface in my opinion.

Assuming you’re not a professional gamer, what’s your day job?

I'm a trainee as an electrician. My training lasts 3 and a half years and right now I'm in the second year. My job is to program, test and verify electronic circuit boards before they get send out to our customers.

Marc: What other hobbies do you enjoy?

I own a YouTube channel named YourGameRoom with three other friends together. We make gaming videos like Let's Plays or commentaries. If you want you can check it out. But our videos are all in German ;) I also love to take some photos outside in the nature. Sounds boring but makes a lot of fun.

Marc: Nothing wrong whatsoever with photography! That sounds like a great and relaxing hobby.

Tell us about your home life – parents, spouse, children, significant other, animal companions?

I live in a small village called Rietenau in South Germany. My parents, my sister, my grandmother and me are all living in a big house with a big garden. We have two rabbits and a cat called Ben. A human name for an animal... I know :D

Marc: A big house and big garden, eh? Can't say my house is exactly big but it does the job!

Of what real life achievement are you most proud? Would you give us some details?

I really haven't had that big real life achievement yet because I'm still young but let me think about it. I would say completing my driver's license and I'll get my job after I finish my training.

Marc: Those are definitely some great achievements! They can come in all shapes and sizes. They don't necessarily have to be something huge to be an achievement.

What’s your favorite game of all time on any console? What makes it special?

I would say Little Big Planet for PS3. I had so much fun with creating my own levels and sharing them to the whole world. I also loved to play other community created levels. This game never gets boring.

Marc: Your favourite game is on the dark side? You traitor!

Do you remember the first game you played? What’s your fondest memory of it?

I remember the first game I played was Super Mario Kartfor the SNES. My friends and I played it at a friends house when we were little boys. We had so much fun while playing this game.

Marc: If some evil spell allowed you to own only a single game for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?

Hmm good question. I would say World of Warcraft. The game is really big and you can spend so much time in it. There's so much to do so it will never get boring.

Marc: Oh boy. I spent so much time on that game back in the day. I feel both happy and sad to have moved on when I look back on it.

What part of the world do you live in? If I were to visit, what sights would I have to see?

Like I already said, I live in South Germany. The next largest city is Stuttgart. We have a beautiful forest and places with the most beautiful landscape ever. The Black Forest is also not far away if you already heard about it. And in Stuttgart we have lots of sights like the King Street (street full of shops) or the Porsche or Mercedes-Benz museum. Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are all produced here in Stuttgart.

Marc: Black Forest sounds pretty sinister. *checks Google* Ok...it doesn't sound as bad as I thought. :-P

Any games you regret putting on your gamertag?

All the games with unobtainable or discontinued achievements like Age of Empires: Online (PC) or Glacier Blast (Win8). I could list a lot of more games here but that should be enough.

Marc: Tell us about your gamer pic. Why did you choose that one?

I've played a looooooot of World at War, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 with my clan. So lots of members decided to choose a MLG gamer pic so it looks uniform. And I decided to take the skull. There's nothing special on it.

Marc: Do you have any particular gaming pet peeves?

I hate it when games have long loading times. It's sooo annoying. And I also hate it when players don't know what to do if I play multiplayer. If you play as good as you can and then all other team members are playing worse than you, you really lose your interest in the game. Sorry noobs :D

Marc: So you're saying you don't like it when people don't match the same skill level as you? Hmm...best stay clear of you then if I ever find you in a multiplayer match. laugh

Marc: What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront, even if I don't have a Xbox One yet. But maybe I'll pick up the One right after the release of Battlefront ;) I played the hell out of Battlefront 1 and Battlefront 2. I even founded my clan back in these days. These games revolutionized my whole gaming experience.

Marc: What game(s) are you currently playing? How are you finding it?

I just bought Titanfall (Xbox 360) in the Ultimate Game Sale. So I'll propably play this the next few weeks. I also play a lot of games for my Windows Phone. Right now I'm totally into Dragon Mania Legends (WP) and Hitman GO (WP). Hitman Go is one of the best mobile games in the Windows Store. You all need to check it out ;)

Marc: What game are you most proud of completing? Why?

That's easy, Warface. I started it as beta and then never touched it again. Then I heard about the server shotdown and I started grinding like a pro. I wanted to complete the game before the servers got down and I did so right before it happened. That was the hardest grind ever in this short time I had.

Marc: Wow, impressive! I'd probably realise I'm doomed and just give up there and then. :-P

What single Xbox achievement are you most proud of? Why?

Microsoft Flight (PC)PentacontacacheThe Pentacontacache achievement in Microsoft Flight (PC) worth 356 pointsFind 50 Aerocaches of the Day.
This achievement costed me so much of my nerves because it was buggy and it needed a lot of time. You had to go online every day and find the daily aerocache. The problem was that not every day the aerocache showed up and I only had a limited time before the servers also got shut down because this achievement was online related.

Marc: In a slightly different vein, do you have a favorite achievement? One perhaps that you just really enjoyed attaining?

Sorry but no, I don't have a favorite achievement. Every single achievement feels the same for me. I love to unlock achievements and it doesn't matter how hard it is or how time consuming it is. A 5G achievement feels the same for me like a 100G achievement. So I can say every achievement is my favorite achievement.

Marc: Interesting. I've never known of anyone with that view of achievements before. Each to their own!

If you found yourself dropped into a video game, which video game character would you most want to have your back?

Viktor Reznov from Call Of Duty: World at War and the Black Ops series. He's totally icecold :D And he kicks ass like no one else.

Marc: In the same scenario, what character/creature would you most/least like to see headed your way?

I would most like to see Ezio Auditore heading my way. He could give me some lessons in free running. And Isaac Frost from Fight Night Champion shouldn't head my way. It was the hardest boss fight I've ever head in my past gaming history.

Marc: Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?

The goat from Goat Simulator :D Because this game makes no sense. But that's why it's so funny. A goat as a character is so stupid ^^

Marc: Ever had any bad experiences online? How did you handle it?

Everyone has bad online bad experiences like messages you don't want to read or impolite people in the in-game chat. The best thing you can do is to just ignore those people and their messages. Keep your head high and stay as you are.

Marc: Do you prefer single player or multi-player?

I like to play both. I totally enjoy the silence in single player where no one is annoying you and I like the story mode in tons of games. But I also enjoy multi-player where you can show your skills in front of other people. And playing co-op with your friends is the best in mulit-player. We're laughing the whole time if my friends or clan members and I are in the same party.

Marc: Do you have a favorite group of friends you like to play with? If so, how did you meet?

Yes, I have lots of groups I like to play with. First I have my friends who live in the same village as me. We've known each other since elementary school. Second I like to play with my YT channel partners and third is my clan. All three groups are the best you can play with.

Marc: If you could have a multiplayer session with anyone in the world, whom would you choose? Why?

His name is TreeJ. He's hosting two YT channels. The first one for his best friend and American rapper Mac Miller. And the other one is his own channel where he's representing other rap artists to the world. He's chillin' every day and enjoying life like I do. You can say he's a very positive guy.

Marc: What other consoles do you own? What are your favorites on those platforms?

I have a N64, a GameCube and a DS. But I don't play them anymore since I have the 360. But my favorite game I played for a long time was Super Smash Bros. for GameCube. I also had a PS3 but I sold it to have money for a 360 :D

Marc: Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to that you were disappointed in when it finally arrived? Tell us about it.

The Crew (Xbox 360). Oh my god just thinking of this game disappoints me. I thought this would be the best game ever. You could read it everywhere: Big map, lots of cars; tuning opportunities... That's true, yes, but the graphics and the controls are sooooo bad. And it's laggy like hell. It even looks like no one is online in this game anymore.

Marc: I was interested in that for a little while before it was released, but all I've heard is bad things so it's put me off almost completely from getting it. Shame, as it looked like it had potential!

Tell us about your gaming set-up.

There's not much to tell. I have a Xbox 360 with Kinect, Xbox Vision and two controllers and a few digital games. I also have 3 original Xbox HDD's, two of them are full with games that I even didn't started. My backlog is extremly big. Too many games to play in my whole lifetime. I play on a Samsung PC screen and not on a TV. I sit right in front of the screen. It's much better to play online with this setup because you see enemies, etc... much faster and better than on TV. You can also see my game capture card in the picture, which is currently not in use.

Marc: How do you use TA? Tracking, walkthroughs, solutions, sessions?

The most I do here on TA is looking up for single achievement solutions and reading the latest Xbox news. I'll also try to give help most people in the forums. Of course I also track my achievements here and search or create some boosting sessions. TA is my favorite site on the world wide web ;)

Marc: How has your gaming changed or evolved since coming to TA?

When I first saw TA I was a little bit skeptical but after I registered I saw how cool this site is. It made me care more about Xbox Live achievements.

Marc: What do you like and dislike most about the site?

What I like here on TA is the awesome people. The whole community is like a real big family. I don't have anything to dislike here, but a translated TA website would be great. So everyone could use it in their own language.

Marc: How did you learn about TA? Have you signed up any friends to the website?

After I sold my PS3 and bought my 360 I started to unlock my first achievements. And I didn't mind it. Then the achievements became more fun every time I unlocked a new achievement. I registered then on a other achievement related site to track my achievements and looked up for solutions. Then my good friend x C O R D E S who told me about TA. I already brought lots of friends here on this site. I can''t even count them :D

Marc: Have you made friends here?

Yes of course I made friends here. Particularly lots of German players. And I really like to play some rounds with them.

Marc: If you could have a game handcrafted just for you, what would your perfect game be?

A mix of MMO and shooter. Something like Destiny or Defiance. But the game should be much bigger than these two are.

Marc: Why do you choose TA over other gaming sites?

The people, solutions, personal friend feed, latest articles, boosting sessions... Need I say more? ^^

To summarize Marc in two words, it would be "Christian Gamer." You will usually find him getting stuck into story heavy action-adventure games, RPG's and the odd quirky title when he isn't raving about Dark Souls and Mass Effect. Outside the world of gaming, Marc attends and helps out in his church on a regular basis and has a not-so thrilling job in a supermarket.
