TA Gaming Stats - July 2015

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period July 1st to 31st.
Welcome to the stats for the whole of July here on TA. This month was a little quieter on the big new release front compared to June but it still sees some big numbers thanks to free, free-to-play and discounted titles.

The Big Numbers
148,714 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 465,447 games between them (2,841 different games).

25,334 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 57,012 games between them (2,192 different games).

194,860 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 9,224,872 achievements online between them (85,028 different achievements).

Xbox One
Although new releases beat out freebies the previous month, in July "Games with Gold" took its place on the top. Although I guess technically So Many Me was both. It joins Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag as the most started games. New releases do feature on the tables quite heavily though with free-to-play World of Tanks the third most started game, as well as EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR, No Time To Explain and Tembo The Badass Elephant.

Meanwhile, sales (including the massive Ultimate Game Sale) help boost LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, Borderlands 2, Goat Simulator, Tomb Raider - Definitive Edition, Far Cry 4, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China across the table with between 3,000 and 4,500 starters. Although they weren't as started, other sales titles were such easy completions that they appear on the Completed table instead, including Thomas Was Alone (which managed to be the most completed game) and Funk of Titans.

The previous months big new release Batman: Arkham Knight remains the actually most played title though, dominating Achievements Won with seventeen whole places behind only two achievements for So Many Me and one for AC IV. This despite a bunch of World of Tanks achievements being auto-popped upon starting up the game thanks to cross-platform unlocking.

Xbox 360
Leading the way on the 360 is July's Games with Gold freebie for the second half of the month, Gears of War 3, although 2,600 starters is actually relatively low for a freebie. I guess people either already had it or weren't too interested in starting it. It still dominates on Achievements Won though, claiming eleven places including the top four. As always, other previous freebies continue to dominate the rest of the tables with Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas both continuing to appear amidst the ongoing Fallout 4 buzz.

A couple of other entries of note include two achievements for Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360) popping up, probably thanks to recent double score events, which also sees a corresponding rise in the game's completions from 90 to 140. New DLC for the 360 version of World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition also put two achievements for the game on the table to coincide with the One release.

The XBLA figures continue to remain solid in July thanks to backwards compatibility with the One on a large number of titles. Nothing compares to new Games with Gold freebie Plants vs. Zombies, which puts Gears to shame with 12,600 starters, 500 completions and eight spots on Achievements Won. Elsewhere, the big sales push up Goat Simulator (Xbox 360), MONOPOLY Plus (Xbox 360), Doom (Arcade), Peggle 2 (Xbox 360), RISK (Xbox 360) and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Many of those are also easy completions, peppering that table with them too with Monopoly being the most completed title of all. Alongside PvZ, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition remains the most played title though as evidenced by the remaining spots on Achievements Won.

The end of July saw the release of the new Windows 10 operating system and, as such, Microsoft Solitaire Collection (UWP) and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta both took to the the tables with 3,100 and 1,700 starters each and both controlling the majority of Achievements Won. Most of the other freebies, especially the Microsoft ones, also got small boosts in their numbers and Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8) in particular also got a boost in completions making it the most completed title.

Modern Combat 5: Blackout (Win 8) and Age of Sparta (Win 8) were also released from Gameloft to accompany the already popular Dragon Mania Legends (Win 8).

New free-to-play releases Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops (WP) and Age of Sparta (WP) proved popular, taking the lead from What in the World? (WP) although that game remains by far the most completed and still takes the most spots on Achievements Won.

Action-Adventure extends its lead over Shooter thanks to AC IV and Batman. So Many Me boosts Platform up from tenth to fifth whilst World of Tanks gives Vehicular Combat a similar boost.
