11 bit studios and publisher Deep Silver have announced that the critically acclaimed This War of Mine
will be heading to consoles early next year. The console version, entitled This War of Mine: The Little Ones
, will contain every piece of content from the PC version, and will introduce new missions, new campaigns and new characters.
The new content in The Little Ones
, as the name suggests, explores the hardships of survival during wartime as seen from a completely different perspective, that of a child. Not only will the player need to deal with the reality of enduring war, but also try to understand how to protect the little ones as “even in times of conflict, kids are still kids - they laugh, cry, play with toys and see the world differently”.
As with the original, the gameplay in This War of Mine: The Little Ones
is controlled by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers stop you from leaving your refuge, so your time is best used focusing on maintaining your hideout, crafting, trading and taking care of your fellow civilians while also teaching the children how to survive in this harsh world. At night, under the cover of darkness, you can take one of your group out onto the streets to scavenge the items that you need to survive.
Michal Drozdowski, creative director at 11bit studios said this about the project:
We had this idea from the very beginning and when Deep Silver provided an opportunity to make a console version, we decided to expand our project and bring our ideas to life.
11 bit studios and publisher Deep Silver also released a reveal trailer for the title that uses The Offspring's “The Kids Aren't Alright” to great effect.
This War of Mine: The Little Ones
will arrive on Xbox One on January 29th, 2016.
