There have been a few series reboots in recent gaming memory. Prince of Persia, Medal of Honour and Castlevania have all had recent reinventions to their franchises. It seems that Ninja Gaiden 3 will be more of a rebirth for Ryu, than a sequel.

While speaking to famitsu.com, Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi said that restarting from the beginning will allow the franchise to be what is "most interesting for the current era".

"We're developing it with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying 'We'd like to make the action game that's most interesting for the current era. With this meaning, it's going to be a game that's not bound by the past more than necessary. Of course, we will be valuing the past, but in a good meaning we'd like to make it into a game that's not tied down by the past."
He also hints at a change that could have dramatic effects for hero Ryu:
"Also, there's something not normal about this hand. It's covered in blood, but there's something unnatural regarding the blood."
What is he talking about? Why is the blood unnatural? Could it be Ryu is becoming a demon? I guess we will have to wait until more is revealed in the future, until then I'm sure fans of the series will have fun speculating!

Ninja Gaiden 3 has not yet had a release date announced.
