GTA V Details Freemode

There's no denying that Grand Theft Auto V is a juggernaut of a game. It's still going strong and, to continue stretching its legs, Rockstar is bringing a significant update. Launching today, GTA V's latest update will add in Freemode Events. Eschewing menus or lobbies, this latest mode allows you to hang out in a Freemode session with Friends, Crewmates, rivals, and randoms. Events will appear at random and players can race over to take part in the event, or carry on about their Freemode shenanigans as they please.

Furthermore, you can customize the Freemode session to decide which types of events will randomly appear, so you can have more of what you love and none of what you don't. King of the Castle is a king-of-the-hill type of event where it's every man for himself as you wage a turf war and attempt to establish control of the designated 'castle'. Hunt the Beast is a - wait, did I already use juggernaut? Oh well -- it's a Juggernaut variant where one player is buffed up and has to escape his relentless pursuers, aka other players. Stunt challenges will appear as well, although they don't have a specific mode.

Another new mode might sound familiar if you're an old-school Keanu Reeves fan. In Hunting Pack, your team must deliver a vehicle to a designated location. The catch? The vehicle is packed with explosives and will detonate if you drop below a certain speed. It's not always a city bus, though. That may sound easy enough, but the opposition will be trying to ram, slam, or barricade you to impede your speed, and blow you to smithereens. Lastly, in Cross the Line, two opposing teams square off against each other with neutral territory between. To win, your team must penetrate the enemy's defenses. That's your whole team, Jack.

The final touch is the addition of the Rockstar Editor from the PC version, now accessible to console players for the first time. This will allow you to let your creative flag fly in GTA's world. Check out the launch trailer below and get ready to free yourself.

I've been gaming practically my whole life, starting around when I was 5 or 6 years old with an Atari 2600 and progressing through nearly every console ever released apart from the Wii U. I'm a completionist by nature, but am trying to move away from chasing every-higher gamerscore and just focusing on enjoying the great games that are all around me. We'll see how successful I am. I've been on TA since 2009 but have become much more active on the site in the past couple of years, and look forward to seeing it grow now that the XB1 app is getting it some much-deserved exposure!
