After asking the Battlefield
community last year which map they'd like to see added to Battlefield 4
, developer DICE can now reveal that Dragon Valley will be making its way to the game as part of the "Legacy Operations" DLC that will be coming out for free on the Xbox One.
Fans who played Battlefield 2
way back in the day will undoubtedly remember the map. Dragon Valley was huge with plenty of flags to capture and defend. One of the main features of the map was the destructible bridges that could also be repaired. DICE will be aiming to make the re-imagined version of this classic map a brilliant location for vehicles.
With technology being far more advanced than it used to be in BF2's day, DICE has been able to make some positive changes to the modernized version of Dragon Valley:
Some things had to change when reimagining the map. Battlefield 2 featured a poor draw distance (how far you can see in the game world) by today’s standards, and the original map was built around those limitations. We tackled this in several ways: first we increased the terrain verticality to closer mimic a real life Chinese river valley – and to give us more terrain occlusion for long distances, especially on the central island. We also added a dynamic cloud layer, which not only adds a welcomed air-to-ground separation in terms of gameplay, but also helps shroud far distances at ground level. This has the added bonus effect of allowing you to have intense aerial firefights above the cloud level, which looks really, really cool in Battlefield 4.
Conquest on Dragon Valley will come with more flags than any other map in the game. DICE wants to "mimic the layout of old" and offer the same style of gameplay. The Rush game mode will also be available to try out too, offering its own unique style of attacking and defending. Take a look at the last couple of screens showcasing the fun and frenzy to come in the Valley, as well as a video of gameplay testing on the same map:
Unfortunately, the "Legacy Operations" DLC will not be coming to the Xbox 360. The scale and size of what will be on offer in this upcoming DLC is best suited for Xbox One only. DICE will however, continue to support Battlefield 4 (Xbox 360)
players with "critical updates" when needed.
