The designers at DICE, the team behind the upcoming Mirror's Edge Catalyst
, seem eager to prove that three month delay
on the title is being well spent on additional development by showing off two new videos featuring the game's movement and combat.
Those who have played Mirror's Edge
will likely tell you that its stand out feature was its movement, which was presented essentially as a linear stage that Faith could traverse using a series of parkour movements. Catalyst
remains true to this ideal and has improved on it, as it has incorporated a new Shift move for a short burst of acceleration and a Quickturn for those moments when a speedy change of direction is required. Movement isn't restricted to simply Faith's hands and feet, however, as a pair of high-tech gadgets, the Mag Rope (essentially a hookshot) and the Disruptor (which allows Faith’s glove to "disrupt and destroy KrugerSec and AI systems") will both be available.
While its movement was frequently lauded, the combat in Mirror's Edge
wasn't always quite as smooth, so the upcoming game seems to be making improvements in that area. These improvements largely come from motion, as moving perfectly through environments will allow Faith to enter a state known as Flow where she will be able to attack in "new and powerful ways."
Mirror's Edge Catalyst
is set to release on May 24th on Xbox One. A closed beta was revealed
last month and registration for it is still open
if you have yet to sign up for your chance to participate.
