Sci-Fi Roguelike Beacon Announced for Xbox One

Independent game developer Monothetic has announced that their first commercial project, Beacon, is coming to the Xbox One. Beacon is a top-down sci-fi action roguelike shooter with a procedurally generated world. The player takes control of a SEC Runner named Freja, who works as a freelance pilot that scouts ahead of main security forces. After her ship, the Ouroboros, crash lands onto an unknown planet, Freja must explore her surroundings to find the equipment needed to create a distress beacon for rescue. Fortunately, the ship contains an automated cloning bay that means that death isn't as daunting as usual.

With death comes new opportunities. Freja collects DNA from every enemy that she defeats. Whenever she dies, her new clone is then combined with this DNA that's been collected, which in turn grants different stats and potentially gameplay-altering mutations.

Freja will encounter several different factions while on the planet. These include the Prism security bots, the Occult, the Native, and the Alien. Check out the artwork of Freja and these factions:

Beacon is confirmed to be coming to the Xbox One, although a specific release date has not yet been announced.
