Does anybody remember the announcement of WarDevil
in December 2004, the game described by developer UTV Ignition as being an "innovative next-generation title" to be released in 2005? This title started the rumours that the 'Xbox 2' was in development and would be released around the same time as the game. Well, the console now known as the 'Xbox 360' did indeed launch in 2005, but WarDevil
disappeared into thin air. This October, rumours spread that the project had been cancelled, as UTV Ignition were forced to make 30 staff redundant from their London studio. Gamers waited for announcements regarding the future of the restructured offices.
Well those announcements have arrived, and in a surprise move reminiscent of Alan Wake
and Duke Nukem Forever
, UTV Ignition have confirmed that third-person action game WarDevil
has been rebranded as Project Kane
and will be entering "fast-track development".
Hassan Sadiq, group chairman for UTV ignition, confirmed their visions for the game:
"Following a comprehensive audit of the title, assets and internal team, we have decided that a core team responsible for the Project Kane prototype will take the game into full production, led by the key vision holders."
Julian Glover, design director, added:
"We have cherry picked from some of the world’s best teams to build our UK studio which includes personnel whose combined previous development credits include Burnout 3, Crysis, Little BigPlanet, and Heavenly Sword. We are extremely excited to fast-track development of Project Kane."
The game is currently due for release in Q4 2011.
