Blizzard Release an Overwatch Animated Short

Blizzard Entertainment’s upcoming team-based shooter, Overwatch: Origins Edition, will be launching two months from now. Set on a near-future version of Earth, you and your teammates will need to work together to fight the forces of Talon and complete a multitude of different objectives, such as “protecting the ancient Temple of Anubis in Egypt”, “escorting an EMP device through King’s Row in London”, or “battling for control of Lijiang Tower in China”.

One of the more unique features of Overwatch is that you can switch between any of the 21 available heroes at almost any moment during a match. This gives players the opportunity to change their play styles to fit the situation. For example, the sniper Widowmaker can use her grappling hook to evade her enemies and find space to line up the perfect shot, while Reinhardt fights up-close and personal with a massive, rocket-powered hammer. Mercy can heal and buff nearby allies, and Torbjörn can set up “lethal mechanical turrets in strategic places to lay down cover fire and guard objectives”.

Blizzard has released a new animated short, entitled Recall. This short tells the story of Winston, one of the game's 21 playable heroes and is, most noticeably, a genetically engineered gorilla who also happens to be a brilliant scientist. Not only that but he is one of Overwatch's four “tank” heroes whose role is to help his teammates by leading the charge into battle.

Overwatch will release on Xbox One on May 24th. Those that want to jump into the action before the game's full release will be able to take part in the Open Beta, which takes place between May 5th and May 9th. As an added bonus, those that pre-purchase the title by April 29th will be able to play in the Open Beta from May 3rd, two days before everyone else.
