Starting off, as it was brought up in another forum, this is our official announcement that we will not be implementing the multiple-walkthrough system about which you were polled three years ago. While 61% of you voted to implement this system, the management team (new and old) decided not to move forward with the system for a number of reasons, so I will go ahead and list them to clear up the confusion around the history of this system and let you know why we're keeping the current walkthrough system in place.
First off, when this poll was released, published walkthroughs had minimal standards. Owners submitted what they felt was adequate for a walkthrough, and the overseers' judgment was grammatically based. Whether the walkthrough was an achievement list or a perfect step-by-step guide was irrelevant. After receiving complaints about the quality of some of the older walkthroughs, the management team decided to poll the community about a multiple-walkthrough system. This would allow the site's best writers to be able to write their own great walkthrough alongside some of the lesser-quality walkthroughs that were being published at that time. These walkthroughs would be published as soon as the owners finished them, similarly to a solution. Then there would be a voting hierarchy system to determine the best walkthrough and what would be displayed as the primary walkthrough, similar to sites such as GameFAQs.
However, after the poll results were tallied, the old managers realized that instead of implementing a myriad of achievement lists masquerading as walkthroughs, maybe there should be a single walkthrough for each game that most would view as excellent and would address a step-by-step walkthrough for the game and all of its achievements. In order to accomplish this under the credit of a single writer, editors and contributors could be brought upon at any time to improve the walkthrough, should the management team deem the edits necessary. Overseers were also given a much more substantial workload, considering that they not only had to judge the quality of the walkthrough but also had to proofread much larger walkthroughs for the games that required them.
Because of that, the management team was left with a dilemma. In order to keep the overseers' workload within a reasonable level, we could either implement multiple walkthroughs per game regardless of quality, or we could either implement a single walkthrough that the owner and the community would simultaneously work towards to make as perfect as possible. The previous managers chose the latter option, which Mystic and I personally view as a smart decision; it is far less cluttered, you don't need to be constantly shifting between tabs, and it preserves the integrity of the best walkthroughs that we have on the site. While many of the old walkthroughs are still in dire need of improvement, we believe that implementing higher standards for walkthroughs has made newer walkthroughs that much greater than in the past. This sentiment is shared by the rest of the team, and I would certainly hope that the idea of quality over quantity makes sense to the community.
To be fully honest, we should have told you about this decision much sooner, considering that the idea of multiple walkthroughs has subsided for a long time within the team. We understand that this was a much anticipated feature, but unless we were to multiply the overseers' workload by a significant amount, it would have been impossible to implement both the multiple walkthrough system and the higher standards for walkthroughs. Again, apologies for not notifying you about this decision when it was first discussed, but consider this the official abandonment of the multiple walkthrough system. It simply works better to have one walkthrough be the best it can be rather than have numerous unpoliced walkthroughs of differing quality that may or may not even be used. We hope that you respect our decision, and if you ever see a walkthrough that you think isn't up to par, please let us know if you'd like to improve it to the current standards.
