Raiders of the Broken Planet Announced

Spanish developer-turned-publisher MercurySteam, best known for their work on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, have announced their first self-published title, Raiders of the Broken Planet.

The game will be a "Multiplayer Online Asymmetric Adventure", and will be distributed episodically - an interesting combination, although no further details on how that will work are available at this time.

What we have got is a short description of the game world:

In the Lira Constellation, light years from Earth lies a Broken Planet. Long ago, its inhabitants discovered a powerful ability enhancing substance called Aleph. Today, this Broken Planet is home to the entire Universe’s intergalactic scum and criminal lowlife. All are here to wrest control of the Aleph and thereby control the Universe.

MercurySteam hint at the asymmetric element of the game as well:

Fight the invaders teaming up with other Raiders, or turn the tables and storm into battle with those invaders fighting at your side!
This will apparently result in a "distinctive blend of shooting, brawling and thinking man’s strategy". Who all these Raiders and Invaders are supposed to be remains to be seen.

The publisher has stated an intention to stage multiple betas to drive gamer participation during development. At the moment this is limited to an online request form for those interested in a PC beta.

On the whole, not a lot of information as yet - but there are some grimy screenshots to get us started.

The company plans to release the game "later this year" on Windows PC, and Xbox One.
