Disney Interactive Announces Discontinuation Of Disney Infinity

By Damien Knox,
Disney Interactive, publisher of the Disney Infinity franchise, has announced that they are discontinuing production of Disney Infinity. To date there have been three titles in the series, the latter two being available for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In their second quarter earnings statement, The Walt Disney Company took a US$147 million write-down with the discontinuation of the self-published console games business. They cited a second quarter revenue decrease of 2% to $1.2 billion and operating income decreased by 8% to $357 million. One of the factors cited was lower than expected sales results of Disney Infinity.

Disney still plans to release two final retail play sets for Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition. Alice Through the Looking Glass is set to be released later in May and will include three new characters. The final play set will be Finding Dory, which is currently scheduled to be released in June.
