Rob Gronkowski is the Madden NFL 17 Cover Star

Rob Gronkowski has been announced as the cover star for the upcoming Madden NFL 17.

His achievements include 65 receiving touchdowns in his first six seasons, the third highest in NFL history, and nine career postseason receiving touchdowns, which is the most ever in NFL history for a tight end. Now he has one more to add to the list -- being the first ever New England Patriots player to appear on the cover of Madden. In an interview with ESPN's SportsCenter, Gronkowski said:

My rookie year, it was just an honor to be in the game, just using yourself as a player, throwing yourself the ball every single time you can at home, just playing the game. Now it's a dream come true, going into my seventh season and being on the cover.
The 27 year old Patriots tight end isn't worried in the least about the "Madden curse" (historically, players appearing on the cover perform poorly or are injured the year after appearing on the cover) rearing its ugly head.

It's definitely reversed itself from back in the day. You have to look at the players that were on it recently. You have Odell [Beckham Jr.], who had an unbelievable year last year. You have Richard Sherman, who went to the Pro Bowl the year he was on it. Calvin Johnson, who broke the receiving record when he was on the cover.

Overall, Gronkowski seems ecstatic with the situation:

I've been close to being on the cover of Madden. Last year, I lost to Odell; he's an excellent player. When I found out that I was truly going to be on the cover, it was a great feeling, and definitely a surreal moment.
You can check out Gronkowski on the cover, spiking the ball in his signature fashion, when Madden NFL 17 releases for Xbox 360 and Xbox One August 23rd.
