To celebrate the series' 36th anniversary, developer Hipster Whale are bringing their mobile game Pac-Man 256
to console and it's not the typical Pac-Man
that you're used to seeing. Named and inspired after the infamous glitched 256th level of the original Pac-Man
, the game is an endless runner where you outrun the glitch for as long as possible. It will, of course, contain all the Pac-Man
staples that you know and love. Ghosts to avoid, power pellets to combat them as well as fruit and dots to chow down on to get the highest score possible.
Originally a free-to-play title on mobile, the console versions has some added extras to make up for the extra cost. While the new social sharing options and 10 themes are nice, the main addition is definitely the new local multiplayer mode where up to 4 of you can take on Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde. The new mode was the focus of the announcement trailer, which you can feast your eyes on below.
As the trailer itself shows, Pac-Man 256
is set to launch on Xbox One on June 21st.
