I think it's safe to say that a lot of console players enjoyed both XCOM: Enemy Unknown
and XCOM: Enemy Within
, particularly here at TA, considering how they combined to win our award for best strategy game back-to-back. So, it was a bit of a bummer for a lot of people — including yours truly — when the sequel, XCOM 2
, was originally announced as PC only. That's all changed now however, as developer Firaxis are teaming up with outsource studio The Workshop to bring the game to console, as revealed in a short announcement trailer.
As well as the announcement itself, it was revealed that anyone who pre-orders the game will receive the "Resistance Warrior Pack", containing not only a variety of additional customisation options, but also the "Survivor Of The Old War", a (presumably special) recruit that will be available in the barracks. Those who pre-order that digital deluxe edition will receive the "XCOM 2
Reinforcement Pack" which includes all paid DLC for the game and the aforementioned "Resistance Warrior Pack". Finally, one important piece of information was also revealed, the release date. XCOM 2
is scheduled to launch on Xbox One on September 6th in North America and September 9th everywhere else. You have no idea how happy I am to type those words.
