In news that should make both fighting fans and DC fans happy, acclaimed fighting game developer NetherRealm have announced Injustice 2
, the sequel to their 2013 DC Comics fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us
. In addition to the announcement itself, a trailer was also provided for our viewing pleasure.
NetherRealm have promised that Injustice 2
will be everything you'd expect from a sequel. More characters, more environments and "taking environment destruction and interaction to the next level". In story terms, not a huge amount is known, but the game will follow on from the events of the first.
The major addition that is being made to the sequel is a brand new Gear System. This new system will reward the player with loot drops when they play the game and with each drop, character-specific loot will drop. This loot will change both the character's look and fighting style, leading to each player having their own "Injustice Universe" suited to them.
With mentions in the narration of a pit and being reborn, could the Lazarus pit/Ra'as al Ghul be involved this time around? And with the DC TV Universe's popularity, could we see some characters - or versions of their characters, at least - voiced by their TV counterparts much like Stephen Amell did for Arrow in the first Injustice
?. Hopefully, we'll find out more at E3 and, at the very least, we'll find out when the game launches on Xbox One in 2017.
