During Microsoft's E3 presentation, ID@Xbox made a rather muted appearance. Of all of the games that were mentioned, We Happy Few
was by far the biggest title of the night. The Action-Adventure title is set in an alternate 1960s England where "slightly terrible people" try to escape the happy denial in which they have been living. If you're to stand any chance of escaping the overly cheerful Wellington Wells, you need to blend in with other citizens who disapprove of anybody who fails to conform to their rules.
Below is a sneak peek at the game's opening sequence. The protagonist, Arthur Hastings, decides that he no longer wants to take his happy pills. By doing this, he chooses to become a Downer where he can see the horrific reality that he has been living. The problem is that the villagers of Wellington Wells have no tolerance for Downers. If he's to get away with not taking his tablets, Arthur has to pretend to blend in with the others. Can he manage this? Let's find out:
We Happy Few
will arrive on the Xbox One Game Preview program on July 26th for those who wish to take their happy pills earlier than others. There is no release date for the full version of the game, but we'll be sure to let you know when that changes.
