LEGO Dimensions Introduces Waves 7-9 With Six New Expansions

By Rebecca Smith, 5 months ago
While a lot of the toys to life games are struggling, LEGO Dimensions continues to go from strength to strength and publisher Warner Bros has announced that the flow of new content will not be stopping anytime soon. A raft of new expansions has just been detailed, including a new type of expansion: story packs. Each of the story packs adds a number of new levels to the game, as well as new figures, a new prop and a new LEGO Gateway to build and place on the game's toy pad.

The first pack of this type to be released is the previously announced "Ghostbusters Story Pack". Players will be able to create a Gateway that looks like Zhu's Chinese Restaurant, while the Abby Yates minifigure and Ecto-1 vehicle will also be included.

The second Story Pack will please J.K. Rowling fans. The "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack" will allow players to recreate the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) to place on top of the toy pad. Take control of the Newt Scamander minifigure and build the 3-in-1 Niffler, which can also take the form of the Sinister Scorpion and Vicious Vulture. Across six new levels, players will help Newt to find his escaped magical creatures in New York City. Spells like Diffindo, Reparo and Lumos will help him out along the way.

After the announcement of two new Sonic titles, Sonic fans would be forgiven for thinking that there couldn't be anymore good news. Well, the only new Level Pack to be detailed does indeed feature the aforementioned blue hedgehog. Players will be able to speed through a level that includes several iconic Sonic landmarks, such as Green Hill, Emerald Coast and Labyrinth. Use Sonic's Acrobat ability to swing off poles, avoid the Badniks and escape using grind rails. As usual, the pack also includes two new vehicles. The 3-in-1 Sonic Speedster can be rebuilt into the Blue Typhoon or the Motobug, while the 3-in-1 Tornado can be rebuilt into a Crabmeat or Eggcatcher.

The newest Team Pack brings a new franchise into Dimensions. The "Gremlins Team Pack" brings rivals Gizmo and Stripe into the fray. Gizmo comes with his Combat Roll and Dash Attack abilities to help him to escape from perilous situations, while Stripe can use his claws and his Vine Cut ability. The two vehicles are the 3-in-1 R.C. Racer (also the Gadget-o-matic and Scarlet Scorpion) and the 3-in-1 Flash ‘n’ Finish (also the Rampage Record Player and Stripe's Throne).

Three new fun packs were also detailed. Accompanying the previously announced "Adventure Time Team Pack" is a "Marceline Fun Pack". As well as the Marceline the Vampire Queen minifigure, players will get the 3-in-1 Lunatic Amp that can be swapped around for the Shadow Scorpion and Heavy Metal Monster. Marceline will come with her Sonar Smash and Bolt Deflector abilities, as well as her Axe Guitar that can be used to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

The "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack" will be accompanied by a "Tina Fun Pack". The Tina Goldstein minifigure allows players to solve puzzles using the Aguamenti spell, while her Protego spell will aid players in combat. The 3-in-1 Swooping Evil can be changed into either the Brutal Bloom or the Crawling Creeper.

Finally, the third new Fun Pack to be revealed will please those adults that consider themselves to be kids at heart. You won't need to phone home to bring E.T. into the fray with the "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Fun Pack". His skills include Illumination, Fix-It, Stealth and Telekinesis. His 3-in-1 Phone Home device can be swapped into a Mobile Uplink or a Super-Charged Satellite.

To finish off the media onslaught, Warner Bros introduced a new series of trailers where the LEGO characters answer the question: "Who's the new guy?" In the first video, Adventure Time's Lumpy Space Princess introduces the A-Team's B. A. Baracus. This is followed by some images of the "A-Team Fun Pack" in action.

Throughout the many images, you may have noticed that the characters and props have a different colour base to the blue base with which we're familiar. This is because all of the new characters that will be included in waves 6-9 will come with golden toy tags, which can be used to unlock a Battle Arena within the world of that franchise. For example, Marceline the Vampire Queen will unlock a Battle Arena within the world of Adventure Time. The arenas allow up to four players to compete via split-screen gameplay across four gameplay modes. Each arena will also have its own traps, special powers and interactive environments.

All of the above packs will be available as wave 7 on November 18th. The exceptions are the "Ghostbuster Story Pack" and the "A-Team Fun Pack", which are part of wave 6 and will be available on September 30th.
