Telltale Talks New Crowd Play Multiplayer in BATMAN – The Telltale Series

By Kelly Packard,
Many players experienced the narratives in Telltale games like The Wolf Among Us or The Walking Dead on the couch with a friend, significant other or family member. Telltale is taking this experience to the next level with their new Crowd Play multiplayer option. Batman: The Telltale Series will be the first game to boast the new feature that they have confirmed will be a staple in Telltale games to come.

How does it work, exactly? First, you've got to set up a game playthrough and select the Crowd Play option. Then, by punching a unique link into any device with a web browser, your friends and family can join your game from their mobile device, PC or tablet (think The Jackbox Party Pack multiplayer). Like Jackbox, they'll need to be able to view your screen or they'll have no idea what's happening. Everyone will then be able to input their individual decisions as the story comes to a crossroads.

BATMAN - The Telltale SeriesWill you and your friends agree?

There are two ways to play Crowd Play as far as the decisions go. Firstly, you can choose what we're going to call the "I Don't Care About Your Choices" mode, where the host can override the other voters' choices and input their own decisions no matter what. There is of course another mode where the majority rules and whatever received the most votes is the decision that will be selected. If there happens to be a tie, the host will get to choose.

According to Telltale, they don't have a set maximum number of players yet, but they're shooting for anywhere from "2 to 2,000 or more," making this a potentially great opportunity for streamers to get their viewers involved in the decisions instead of just watching.

BATMAN – The Telltale Series will be the first game to try out this new feature when it launches in August. And don't worry Xbox 360 players, the feature has been confirmed for both current and last-gen consoles.
