Forza Racing Championship Season 1 Detailed: As Promised, Anyone Can Enter

By Kelly Packard, 4 months ago
According to Brian Ekberg, Community Manager at Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport 6 sees over three million players every month. Back in June, the Forza Racing Championship was teased as a competitive event that any one of these millions of players could enter. Today Turn 10 has announced the details of the upcoming competition. As promised, there are events for veterans and newbies alike and everyone can try their hand at the event.

Boasted to be the "largest competition in Forza history," sign-ups are already available and there are real-world prizes on the line like a brand new 2017 Ford Focus RS. There are two series going on over the next month that you need to know about — the Elite Series and the Open Series. The Elite Series is essentially the big leagues. It's a real tournament that will feature qualifying, seeding and hosting through ESL, one of the largest eSports organizations in the world.

The Elite Series starts on August 8th. Each week for the next three weeks, players interested in the Elite Series will first have to join the Forza RC Elite Series Rivals Qualifier. This will decide the seeding for the next step in the tournament, the ForzaRC Elite Series Cup. Every Sunday, the top 16 players from the ForzaRC Elite Series Cup will compete in the ForzaRC Elite Series Showdown, which will be broadcasted live on the official Forza Twitch channel. Each week will feature a different car and track.

Then, the top four racers from the ForzaRC Elite Series Showdown will compete in the ForzaRC Elite Series Grand Finals on September 4th, which will also be broadcast on Twitch. This is the big event; the winner of the Elite Series Showdown will win the aforementioned 2017 Ford Focus RS. It's not just the first place winner who takes it all though, there will be Microsoft and Forza goodies given to the top four racers in each week's ForzaRC Elite Series such as an Xbox One S, Xbox Elite controllers, Logitech racing wheels and more.

If the Elite Series sounds like it's for you, you can sign up at ESL's website here. Make sure to read all the rules and regulations before doing so to make sure you qualify. Even if you're not the greatest racer, it might be worth your time to sign up for the qualifiers anyway — every racer who posts a time in the qualifiers will receive a free 1973 Ford Escort 1600 in-game. They'll be giving one away to the participants each week and the car will be themed differently for each week. They're also exclusive to qualifier participants in the tournament and there won't be any other chances to get them.

The schedule for the Elite Series is as follows:

2015 Ford Mustang GT on Autodromo Internationale Monza

Forza

That's the Elite Series in a nutshell, but remember there is also the more accessible Open Series. Beginning August 8th, players will be able to compete in the weekly ForzaRC Open Series League. This event is open to everyone with no qualifiers or seeding to worry about. You'll automatically be grouped into a division with similarly skilled players, ensuring it's a fair playing field. Everyone can compete no matter what, but if you want to be eligible for prizes you do have to officially register, which will be hosted through ESL just like the Elite Series.

In the Open Series, players have a shot at Forza Motorsport 6 content like the Porsche Expansion and NASCAR Expansion and the Forza Motorsport 6 Car Pass.

Another unique car will be given out to participants of the Open Series, so if you like collecting cars in-game be sure to throw your hat into the ring. For the Open Series it will be a 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III that will, like the Elite Series car, have different decor each week of the event.

You can sign up for the Open Series here. Remember that if you don't want to sign up, you can still compete, but Turn 10 emphasized you must be registered to receive prizes.

The schedule for the Open Series is as follows:

Open Series Week 1 League – August 8 - 14
  • ForzaRC Week 1 League starring the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and a variety of tracks

Open Series Week 2 League – August 15 - 21
  • ForzaRC Week 2 League starring the 2013 Ford Formula Ford EcoBoost 200 and a variety of tracks

Open Series Week 3 League – August 22 - 28
  • ForzaRC Week 2 League starring the 2016 Ford #66 Ford Racing GT Le Mans and a variety of tracks
If you're looking for more information, you can check out Turn 10's announcement here and ESL's page here.

Forza Racing Championship Season 1 officially begins on August 8th. The last event will be the Elite Series Grand Finals on September 4th. Since Turn 10 is calling this "Season 1," perhaps it means the plans for Season 2 have already been laid.
