With the additional costs involved in the new server and hosting, I feel it's time to try to get some non-donation revenue into the site.
To be honest, I've never had any experience with online ad companies, so I've been researching the topic quite considerably (I think it's a pretty important decision which company we go with). My initial enquiries have come up with AdBrite as a top performer, so I've decided to try them out. As with most (all?) of these companies, you can't actually see what the ads will look like until you launch them onto a live website. So that's what I've just done.
There is a single banner ad at the top of every page, and on all pages apart from the gamer pages, there is a single skyscraper ad on the right.
Donators don't see any of these, so if you want to have a look what they look like you'll need to log out.
At the moment, there is just a bit of text on a white background, but presumably ads will begin appearing there in the next 24 hours or so.
Anyway, this is just a test, it may be permanent, it may not, but I need to see a) what they look like, b) what companies they are for, and c) how they perform!
