Metal Gear Survive Detailed

In the eyes of an army of Metal Gear fans, it might be impossible to top Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This task is made even more insurmountable with creator Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami in 2015. To dodge this bullet Konami is instead taking the "spinoff route" over a direct sequel with their next entry into the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Survive.

The goal in Survive is to do just that: survive. It's a four-player co-op stealth game that hopes to offer a "fresh take on the series" while still containing much of the same cloak and dagger gameplay fans know and love. The enemies are biological disasters reminiscent of something out of Resident Evil. If this is all sounding a bit odd, things are only going to get odder when you see it for yourself in the trailer:

As for where all of this falls into the Metal Gear timeline, according to Konami Survive picks up where Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes ended, in an "alternate timeline caused by unexplained wormholes forming in the sky." The setting is what's left of a desert but is now a barren wasteland with scattered dilapidated buildings, the aforementioned biological disasters and some unfriendly military personnel. Survivors must work together to survive in the harsh environment.

Metal Gear Survive is scheduled to release on Xbox One in 2017.
