TA Community Interview - Strategy One

By Kevin Tavore, 3 months ago
It's been two weeks since we met a great TA member named PistolMcAwesome. Obviously, he was pretty awesome, so today's interviewee has some pretty big shoes to fill. Strategy One is here and he thinks he can meet that high standard.

Many of you have probably used his solutions under his former name Le Lone Wolf or from his high placement in Leap Frog 2016, so now you'll finally get to put a face to the name. So without further ado, here he is!

The Interview

Gamertags almost always tell something about their owners. Tell us about yours.

My past gamertags I can remember were BIizzardI and Le Lone Wolf, which most people would remember because the tag was well-known around the site. I did BIizzardI because I always loved the name Blizzard so no big story with that one. Le Lone Wolf was because I have done so many things alone and don't depend on others especially when it comes to getting achievements, I have to be the one unlocking the achievement or it would bother me each time I look at that achievement. I also have a tribal wolf tattoo.

Now I recently changed my tag to Strategy One when the big tag release event happened. I intended on obtaining Strategist or One but grew tired of continually clicking the button on the Xbox website so I just put the two together! I am a huge strategy gamer, currently #4 but will soon get right back to working on it and an effort to making #1 for Strategy TA score in the world.
Let's be honest. You have a three wolf moon shirt, don't you? Please tell me you have one.

Hahaha, nope. I don't have any Wolf shirts! Just ink on the skin!

How long have you been gaming?

I have been gaming as long as I can remember, so I would say about 17 years when I was 5 or 6. My brothers and I were crazy about video games when we were introduced to it. We started with computer games such as Starcraft, Warcraft III, Diablo, Age of Empires and a few other classics for PC. We also did Gameboy Color playing Pokemon and had a Sega Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog. We then got a PS2 and played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Tony Hawk's Underground, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, Timesplitters, Final Fantasy and many other great games that were on the PS2. We also played the original Halo on Xbox original with our uncle so I was also there for the Xbox's big moment too!
Do others in your family game, or are you a first-generation gamer?

My 3 other brothers continue to game as well, before that no one in my family gamed.
What do your parents/significant other/friends have to say about your gaming?

No one has any problems about my gaming because it is becoming such a regular thing, its even getting easier to talk about with co-workers because everyone at least close to my age games. Some game a ton and some game a little but no one takes it against you. It's quite fun to talk about the upcoming future of gaming. My mom isn't very fond of my gaming though - she says I do it too much - but that's what a hardcore gamer is.
Assuming you’re not a professional gamer, what’s your day job?

laugh I have to laugh on this because its a night job. I have been with Lowes for about a year and a half now. I started in the garden center which was quite a learning experience for me as I was never a plant guy. I then switched over to nights so I have daytime availability to pick up and watch my daughter. For anyone who hasn't switched from days to nights it isn't easy and I have lost MANY hours of sleep. I am still working on a sleeping schedule but its extremely difficult to change it.
What other hobbies do you enjoy?

I am a TV/movie fanatic, including anime. I use websites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes to find the best movies. They are not 100% accurate, but still extremely useful to find movies and series that are worth watching. I have watched lots of anime and have even made a list rating them and listing my top 5. I am more than willing to share if anyone wants it just shoot me a PM.
A list of anime, huh? Let's get a sneak peak. Give us the top 5!
Of course!

  1. Code Geass
  2. Dragon Ball Z
  3. Death Note
  4. Berserk (original, 2016 non-included in this)
  5. Sword Art Online (Virtual reality gaming FYI)
If you are interested in trying anime you can start with those, if you like anime like myself these are a MUST!
Tell us about your home life – parents, spouse, children, significant other, animal companions?

My family has sadly dwindled since I moved from Wisconsin to Arizona about 11-12 years ago. My dad was killed in an accident when I was 12 years old so I just have my mom now and she has not found someone else to be with. Plus I really can't call anyone else dad now as I am an adult myself and have become a dad myself. I have 3 other brothers -, they are 35, 25, and 21. One lives in Wisconsin still and has children of his own which I hardly know as I am across the country and don't visit Wisconsin much, one is in Tempe and going to ASU while living with a GF and the final one is living with my mom and myself. My only grandpa is in Wisconsin currently fighting cancer and does not have much time to live. My grandma is in Florida doing well. Other than them I do not have really any other family that we keep in contact with.

As I have mentioned a couple of times already, I do have a daughter named Juliette who is now 1 1/2 years old takes up a good amount of my time. I do not have her the whole time but have joint custody and she is loads of fun. At the same time, she's loads of work as I'm sure everyone who is a parent knows. She is quite a blessing and brings life to my household. My family tries so much harder to do things on holidays now after we went years without doing anything now that we have her. As I am sure many will ask, yes she will eventually play video games with me when she's old enough smile.

I also have a friend who is like a brother to me lives across the country that I have known for over 10 years named Ryan. He left Arizona for over half the time I have known him and we have kept our friendship strong through Xbox. We have played many games together, gone through so much and have had many laughs.

What part of the world do you live in? If I were to visit, what sights would I have to see?

I live in Gilbert, Arizona, which is really hot...... I sadly have been here for quite a long time but haven't seen the Grand Canyon yet but its supposed to be really worth it. I also heard Sedona is a really good place to check out but again haven't been there myself. The place that I have been is Tombstone and that was really fun and worth going to. It's a great history lesson. If you have not seen the movie check it out because its good and is based on Tombstone, Arizona.

Also a place I go to and all the young people go to is Mill Avenue. Of course you would have to be 21 because its where all the bars are! My favorite place over there with the best drinks is Fat Tuesday. They have alcoholic slushies!

Of what real life achievement are you most proud? Would you give us some details?

I would have to say number one is my daughter. She is nothing but awesome and when I look at her I know she gets a ton of her cuteness from me so I see that as a major achievement. Also my car. It's not fully paid off yet but everything I put into it is my work. Also I would not have it if I did not do such a great job with my credit score - nothing feels better than hearing "You have been approved with excellent credit".

I also graduated in the top 20% of my class of 2011, so that was definitely an achievement.

If you had to pick one spirit animal to describe you, what would it be?

Wolf. I do well in a pack and I can do well alone.
I'll admit, I saw that one coming.

What’s your favorite game of all time on any console? What makes it special?

That is one tough decision but I would have to say Starcraft. I spent years on it. If it came out on consoles I would buy in a heartbeat. It's an RTS - my favorite kind of strategy - and the base building, mineral collecting, and army building were the best feelings ever. The other games that come close are Warcraft, BioShock, Halo 1, Timesplitters, Final Fantasy X and Diablo. I spent so many hours on them and every second was heaven.
Do you remember the first game you played? What’s your fondest memory of it?

It was either Pokemon on Gameboy color or Starcraft on PC. Both are full of fond memories. In Pokemon Yellow I remember walking around with that Pikachu following me and having like one high level 70 beat all the other trainers and gym leaders. In Starcraft I remember playing online for endless games/hours building up massive armies and having epic battles!
If some evil spell allowed you to own only a single game for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?

Starcraft: Brood War. I don't remember how many years I played that game but the replayability was endless. I don't think I will ever love another game as much as I did for it. I actually still own it - about a year ago I bought a Nintendo 64 with the Starcraft game for it just to play it again since it was much cheaper than buying a PC or gaming laptop.
Any games you regret putting on your gamertag?

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. That game just did not work with me...... None of the others really bothered me.
Tell us about your gamerpic. Why did you choose that one?

My current gamerpic that is visible on TA and Xbox is just a pic of my avatar so its nothing special to be honest. Sadly Xbox One doesn't even have a good selection and many are used by others so I just do my avatar. My 360 one remains the one given when beating Master Ninja difficulty on Ninja Gaiden II, which I did not achieve normally but still was quite an achievement. I beat that game over 13 times on every difficulty and using every weapon alone on each play-through. Ask anyone who has played that game. It's not easy even on the easiest difficulty. I probably died over 10000 deaths in that game and killed over 50000 enemies.
Do you have any particular gaming pet peeves?

Just game saving. Achievement hunting is becoming a hobby and obtaining them by loading up saves from the internet on is just plain wrong and illegitimate. If you game save you have no skill in gaming and are nothing but a cheater.
What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?

Bioshock Collection, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition and Halo Wars 2, the Dead Rising remakes and Dead Rising 4! Those are going to be day 1 purchases and nothing but fun!
What game(s) are you currently playing? How are you finding it?
Lies of Astaroth and Prominence Poker. I am enjoying both of them!

Lies has some issues but still quite enjoyable! I wish I could get some good cards though! I can't progress with what I have.......

Prominence Poker is fun. I have always enjoyed poker so this is nothing new to me. It does bother me a little that everyone is boosting it but its not like its directly affecting me so its all good. I have obtained 1 billion chips in a poker game in the past but that took hours upon hours so getting that achievement will either have to be some sort of exploit or loads of time and effort.
What game are you most proud of completing? Why?
Gears of War 3, getting Seriously 3.0 was a nice little milestone.

MASSIVE CHALICE felt really good to complete. Iron Brutal difficulty is not a joke.

Voice Commander was great too. Not only was it a grind but you had to continually use voice commands so that makes the grind more difficult. I also am sitting on the leaderboard as #1 highest Score (65,983) and Kills in a single game (58,746), which I am reminded of every time I get followers and messages about it.

Neverwinter is a great completion too. It's one of my most played Xbox games with just over 1280 hours if the tracker is correct. I still log in daily for rewards, knowing there will be more achievements for that.

Tom Clancy's EndWar is not a completed game since the final achievement is unobtainable, but I felt good about finishing that one as the online is a grind and single player is very difficult. The whole control scheme makes it a challenge.
What single Xbox achievement are you most proud of? Why?

MASSIVE CHALICEIRONEST CHALICEThe IRONEST CHALICE achievement in MASSIVE CHALICE worth 2142 pointsComplete an IRON game (Brütal Difficulty)

It was one hell of a run going for it and very much worth it. Its been decreasing in value but I will never forget doing that achievement or game for that matter.
In a slightly different vein, do you have a favorite achievement? One perhaps that you just really enjoyed attaining?

Again...
MASSIVE CHALICEIRONEST CHALICEThe IRONEST CHALICE achievement in MASSIVE CHALICE worth 2142 pointsComplete an IRON game (Brütal Difficulty)

I had so much motivation to get it nothing was going to stop me. The ending was the only part I almost lost my motivation but that just led to an even better feeling of accomplishment.
If you found yourself dropped into a video game, which video game character would you most want to have your back?

Master Chief, what better to have your back than a Spartan!!!
In the same scenario, what character/creature would you most/least like to see headed your way?

Magikarp.
Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?

Yes! Necromorphs from Dead Space! They need to burn!
Ever had any bad experiences online? How did you handle it?

Yes, much trash talking. It was a long time ago, I just trash talked back. Not that it ever worked lol.
Do you prefer single player or multi-player?

Single player right now because if I need to I can just pause the game which comes in handy when my daughter is with me.
Do you have a favorite group of friends you like to play with? If so, how did you meet?

Yes currently I have enjoyed gaming with my new friend WisdomMan87,Dr Latour I have played with for a while, K4rn4ge who I have met through Leap Frog, and my best friend I have known for over 10 years Ryan.

Some others that have been good to game with is FEAR EPIDEMIC, Shadow 00 Fox, and t smugz (who sadly went to TrueTrophies cry).
If you could have a multiplayer session with anyone in the world, whom would you choose? Why?

If we are talking about people who aren't alive anymore included then my dad..... We never actually played a game together.

If we are talking about only people alive then my oldest brother who hardly games anymore. He was nothing but good times.
What other consoles do you own? What are your favorites on those platforms?

Playstation 2, Nintendo 64, Xbox Original, Xbox 360.
Timesplitters, Starcraft, Halo 1, Bioshock.
Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to that you were disappointed in when it finally arrived? Tell us about it.
The first one that comes to mind was Resident Evil 6 (Xbox 360), it was such a let-down when I started playing it and I couldn't even continue the game until I played it with a friend to get the original game complete.
Tell us about your gaming set-up.

Well I play in 2 areas, 1 is my room and the other is my families living room which is where my daughter plays the most. My room is kinda a man cave, I got a couch which was the best decision for a gaming set-up. Wall mounted flat screen 42 inch tv, table to have my laptop on for easy access to the internet and achievement guides. A fridge I usually fill with drinks, Microwave so I can grab something cold at night and nuke it in my room. Stereo I can play music from my laptop, a fan to keep cool during the hot Arizona days and a small shelf for the current games I play and have on my to-do list (like strategy games). The rest of my games are in my closet on a shelf, I won't show that because my closet is too stuffed, organized, but stuffed.

How do you use TA? Tracking, walkthroughs, solutions, sessions?

Everything. And not only do I use solutions but many would know me from making them. I love statistics and TA rewards you not only for gamerscore but gives another score based on how "valuable" achievements are because there can be achievements on Xbox that take over 100 hours but only give 5 gamerscore, I think thats a bit of a flaw in Xbox games the gamerscore you get has nothing to do with how difficult or time consuming your achievements are, to be #1 with gamerscore you basically just have to buy all the easiest and fastest games to obtain achievements, no skill involved really at all.
Do you actively compete in any of the TA competitions? Which ones?

The only competition I participated in was this most recent Leap Frog which I placed #6.
What did you like about competing in Leap Frog? Would you do it again?

I would have to say meeting new people and the discussion thread which I found entertaining most of the time and im sure many people would agree with me on that one! I also enjoyed the Strategy Aspect of it, I set myself up to about 15.00 ratio when it first began by not unlocking the achievements but keeping them ready to unlock.

Compete again? I don't know - maybe if the rules changed a bit since this went on so long! I do think I am going to finally jump into GTASC next year if I can get the right team.
How has your gaming changed or evolved since coming to TA?

Well with sessions and having friends who actually care about achievements and willing to boost games makes achievements I couldn't or can't obtain obtainable. There was so many games that had no one playing Multiplayer, but on here you can always find someone.
What do you like and dislike most about the site?

Like:
I think Ratio is the best thing on the site and solutions are a fantastic idea. This site unlike other sites allow anyone to post solutions and reviews which are extremely awesome, sometimes we can run into some sadly written no effort put into solutions/reviews which honestly give me something to laugh about.

Dislike:
Not to get too far into it but I feel the TA competition rules are flawed and need work.
How did you learn about TA? Have you signed up any friends to the website?
Back in 2010 I don't remember if one of my brothers told me about it or I stumbled upon it. I actually started with mygamercard.net which im sure all the Xbox vets did too then I tried a few others and ran into this one and kept it because I liked it over the others. Some just seemed really dead and no one used.
Have you made friends here?
Loads of new friends!
If you could have a game handcrafted just for you, what would your perfect game be?

Any RTS like Starcraft or Warcraft III or Age of Empires. Those just hit the spot.
Why do you choose TA over other gaming sites?

They are either dead or don't have nearly as many statistics. The whole TA system is brilliant.
Do you have a “claim to fame” in gaming? If so, what is it?

Just for Strategy and solution making toast

Closing Comments

Is there anything in particular you want the TA community to know about you?

Sure, I just want everyone to know my grammar can suck and I'm sorry if it bothers you. I try my best not to make run-on sentences but in my head I talk without periods - just commas laugh.
Is there anything I haven’t asked that you want to talk about?
Nope I think that was a good amount of talking!
Any shout-outs you want to make before we go?
Yup! since its just a long list just visit my page and drop the spoiler for Truefriends, because they are the ones that were there for me and I appreciate people who have helped me out.

Also to those who actually vote on solutions because every thumb up means I helped someone and its a great feeling to know im helping others obtain achievements! So I say Thank you!

Stay Classy TA!
And that's it! Thanks Strategy for the great look into you and your life. Perhaps I'll one day give you competition on that strategy leaderboard. Until then, I remain impressed.

The TA Community Interview will be posted every two weeks if we have enough nominations! If you have a friend you'd like to nominate to be interviewed, or if you'd like to nominate yourself, please send a PM to kintaris. You’re more likely to be picked if you’re well-written, interesting, funny or should own a three wolf moon shirt.
