2K is pulling out all the stops in promoting October's Mafia III
— including re-listing its predecessor for sale, according to an announcement
on the official Mafia
website. Mafia II
was suddenly removed from the Xbox, PlayStation and Steam digital storefronts last year for what was most likely music licensing issues. As of this writing, Mafia II
isn't yet available on the Xbox Marketplace, but has already appeared on the PlayStation Store
Vito and Joe just hanging out
Though this is a good sign, probably a more important issue (for achievement hunters, collectors and completionists especially) is whether or not the DLC, which was pulled at the same time as the base game, will become available for purchase once more. Mafia II's
DLC experience consisted of three major expansions, "Jimmy's Vendetta," "Joe's Adventures"
and "The Betrayal of Jimmy" (which was exclusive to other platforms, but available on the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits version), as well as some miscellaneous costume and weapon packs. All of the DLC can still be obtained physically for Xbox 360 via the Platinum Hits edition.
After a little investigating, the DLC is showing up for purchase on Steam
, but is nowhere to be found on the PlayStation Network. As for whether or not the DLC will be available when the Xbox 360 version goes live, or if Mafia II
will end up a pre-order bonus for a certain new game coming out, we'll just have to wait and see.
