First Look at Gears of War 4's Horde Mode; Run the Jewels Collaboration By Kelly Packard, 01 Sep 2016 FollowtopicsGears of War 4Gears of WarXbox Game StudiosXbox Game PassLocal MultiplayerThird Person ShooterKelly Packard Ever since the Gears of War series' second endeavor, Horde mode has been a staple of the franchise. The "survive as long as you can" game type evolved from setting up your own makeshift fortifications with carefully placed Boomshields in Gears of War 2, to having a bona fide fortification and upgrade system in place with Gears of War 3.Though The Coalition confirmed months ago that Horde would be returning for Gears of War 4, today we got our first real look at it. Horde 3.0 will feature class-based gameplay (such as Soldier, Sniper, Scout, Heavy and Engineer), skills, abilities and more. As you can see, fortifications will be returning. If you look closely, you might spot a few new enemy types too.If you're into the sounds that set this scene, the trailer features music from hip-hop group Run the Jewels' unreleased upcoming album. The song is titled "Panther Like A Panther (I’m The Shit)." According to a tweet from the Head of Xbox Games, Aaron Greenburg, the group's two members, Killer Mike and El-P, will be available in-game as playable characters in multiplayer modes. If you're going crazy for this collaboration (as a lot of the Internet is at the moment), Run the Jewels is even selling Gears/Run the Jewels collab-themed merchandise on their website.Horde mode, and the rest of Gears of War 4, will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11th, with early access options for players who pre-ordered certain editions and consoles. We've got the full list of Gears of War 4 achievements - check the list for guides to unlocking them.More Gears of War 4 stories: Gears of War Forums officially shutting down in favour of Discord and other social media New Gears of War game in development, job listing suggests The Coalition cancelled two unannounced projects, now focused on Gears 6 – report Dave Bautista throws bandana in ring for Gears of War movie Gears of War remastered collection rumoured to launch this year VideoUpcoming ReleaseXbox OneWindows Written by Kelly PackardIn a few descriptors: college student, longtime gamer, writer and junk food enthusiast.
