It's been a while since we've talked about Battle Chasers: Nightwar
, Airship Syndicate's attempt to restore old-school console RPG glory to modern machines. Since reaching its Kickstarter funding goal
, the team have been hard at work developing and drumming up interest at game shows, bolstered by their partnership with Nordic Games, now known as THQ Nordic.
The latest news is that the game will now release as a physical as well as a digital title. Airship are currently working on a system to allow previous backers to make the switch from digital to disc if they so choose.
Admittedly this may be tricky so it'll take some time to figure out exactly how to make it happen, and we hope to have some details for everyone on the upgrade system in the coming months.
The partnership with THQ Nordic has also allowed the team to push themselves in other ways. The final product is expected to have eight dungeons instead of the original five, more abilities and creatures, and generally a higher level of polish. The original stretch goal of a "Tavern Mini-Game" has been expanded into a full fishing mini-game which players will come back to throughout their journey.
To keep us intrigued on the long wait until launch, the team also released a handful of concept art and screens:
A shady merchant NPC A Boss - "Skeleton Champion" Slime Boss - "Cadaverous Mound"
The game is expected to go into Alpha at the end of the year and Beta during the first quarter of 2017, with a full Xbox One release coming along somewhere in the middle of next year.
