Voodoo Vince: Remastered Announced

In a world where "remasters" are announced before games even celebrate their fifth anniversaries (yes, Skyrim, I'm talking about you), there comes one man, er, doll, actually deserving of redemption. That man — doll — is Voodoo Vince.

Voodoo Vince: Remastered

Voodoo Vince is a puzzle platformer that launched in 2003 for the original Xbox, when the system was nearing its decline. Because of this, it got a little bit lost in the shuffle, according to its creator, Clayton Kauzlaric. But this didn't stop Voodoo Vince from becoming something of a cult hit among fans, and Kauzlaric was overwhelmed with the positive encouragement he continued to receive for years after its launch. Though he later took on a job at Microsoft Studios as a Creative Director in first party publishing, he never gave up hope on Vince.

Despite his employee status at Microsoft, Kauzlaric's studio, Beep Games, will be publishing the title independently through the ID@Xbox program. He's thrilled about the features he'll be able to have in the updated version that weren't available, or he didn't have time to complete, when the original launched:

What’s in the new version? It’s wide screen now, of course, in glorious 1080p and running at 60fps. The rendering engine is being rewritten from the ground up with lots of crisp new textures and rendering effects. Xbox Live was still a twinkle in Microsoft’s eye when VV launched, so we’ve got profiles and achievements. We never finished hooking up rumble in the original game, so yay: We have vibrate-y goodness. The gameplay is mostly untouched, though. That was important to me. Vince moves, animates, and controls exactly like he did in 2003. You can just see a lot more detail in his world when he moves through our twisted version of New Orleans and the Bayou.

Voodoo Vince: Remastered will also feature soundtrack updates and remixing that are being done by the game's original composer, Steve Kirk. Though it will be available on both Xbox One and Windows 10, it was not specified if it will be a part of the Play Anywhere program.

"I hope his long-time fans are as glad as I am to see him again," said Kauzlaric. "I also hope Vince will make a few new friends now that he’s coming back to the world of the living."

Voodoo Vince: Remastered will be available in early 2017.
