Michel Ancel has been tugging on the heartstrings of Beyond Good & Evil fans for the better part of a decade. Though the 2003 PS2-era title wasn't a monster hit by any means, it was propelled into cult-classic fame, with rumors of sequel beginning to swirl as early as 2008. Though the rumors have died down in recent years, they picked back up again last week when images were posted on Ancel's Instagram account. Ancel has released one more image all but confirming the game's development in the tagline: "Endangered species - now saved - Game in pre-production - Stay tuned !"
The image came with the headline "Endangered species - now saved - Game in pre-production - Stay tuned !" If that wasn't explicit enough, the development of a new Beyond Good & Evil title was then confirmed on the official Beyond Good & Evil Facebook page:
If you've been waiting for news about BG&E... well, here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.
Though fans of the first game are understandably cautious about getting too excited, due to all of the false starts and announcements in the past, this is looking to be the real deal. Though, as Ancel posted, the game is only in pre-production, so we probably won't be seeing much on it for awhile.
Also left unstated was where this new title will fall into the timeline. Though Ubisoft did confirm they are working on a new title, never was the phrase "Beyond Good & Evil 2" mentioned. Until we can get more information, it looks like the rest will be left to our imaginations.
