Battleborn's First Story Operation DLC Arrives

After some technical issues led to a quadruple XP event by way of apology last month, the Battleborn camp has been fairly quiet. Gearbox have made up for that by releasing a whole bunch off stuff over the last couple of days.

First off, we have "Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion". The first of five planned Story Operations, this is paid-for DLC that is already included in the Season Pass or Digital Deluxe version of the game. You can also purchase it in-game for 700 Platinum.

Playing solo as any of the Battleborn, or co-op with up to two friends, you'll be joining Attikus as he relives an uprising among the Thrall, which in turn "sparked a revolution within the Jennerit Empire". Playing out across the rooftops and slums of the planet Tempest, you'll get to see some of Attikus' motivations first-hand.

Gearbox haven't left out those who don't feel like paying for this additional DLC, either. They've released a free update that contains a new multiplayer mode called "Face Off". In this 5v5 mode, you'll have 15 minutes to take down the Varlesi and retrieve their masks, taking them to a central repository to score points. The other team will be trying to do the same thing, so you'll have to balance your mask-collecting with stomping on the opposition to stop them scoring. Using shards, you'll be able to build Mx.Headhunter assassins on the map to help you taking down the opposing team. This sounds like a good option to keep the enemy team busy while you concentrate on the Varlesi, who will get increasingly tougher to defeat as the clock ticks down.

Along with all of this, the game has also been patched with a whole bunch of tweaks and fixes. The full list of those changes can be found here. Aside from bug fixes, the tweaks include removing collision with your team-mates (You and your projectiles will pass through them), a huge number of stat tweaks for individual Battleborn, revisions to Bliss Golems in the campaign and a significant reduction in load times at character selection for players with a large number of loadouts. You'll also be able to select server regions when going into a private match.

Finally, as it's Halloween, you can grab some Spooky Skins from the in-game marketplace. There's one apiece for Alani, Deande, Pendles and Reyna.

Don't forget that there's a whole bunch more on the way in the future. Everyone will be getting two more heroes, including Kid Ultra and one further yet to be announced. If you've paid up for the Season Pass or digital bundle you'll get these two heroes earlier than everyone else. We can expect a further free PvP mode as well, though dates and details have yet to be released.
