Backwards Compatibility Is One Year Old - Has It Been A Success?

By Rich Stone,
Next week marks the first anniversary of the Xbox One's Backwards Compatibility Program, the feature that allows you to play Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One.

A massive 287 titles have made it into the program so far (you can find the
full list of Backwards Compatible games here) and they cover a huge range of genres and styles.

The list also contains some of the highest ranked games on TrueAchievements, including classics such as Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Portal 2, Mass Effect and Forza Horizon.

Our initial analysis suggests that the program is working well. This is the average number of online achievements won per month this year for Red Dead Redemption:

When the game went backwards compatible, unlocks went up by around 2000%!

This week, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer tweeted that the BC team have some treats in store for all of us in November:

Do you think that the program has been a success? What have been your highlights of the program so far, and what would you like to see coming to Backwards Compatibility in November?

Yo! Rich here - I was the one that created TrueAchievements back in 2008 as I felt the Xbox Gamerscore system could be improved. The site has evolved massively since then and it's now the biggest and best Xbox community on the planet! Racing games and open world shooters are my thing, but I'll give most genres a go. Except RPGs - those things are evil.
