LEGO CITY Undercover Announced for Xbox One

By Kelly Packard,
Punch "LEGO" into the search bar on the right hand side and you'll quickly be greeted with more than 20 titles available between Xbox One and Xbox 360. But, believe it or not, that's not all of the LEGO games that exist in the world. Publisher WB Games has announced the formerly Wii U exclusive LEGO CITY Undercover will be making its way to Xbox One next year.

Undercover follows a police officer, Chase McCain, as he goes undercover to try to bring down the game's bad guy, Rex Fury. Players have a closet full of disguises at their disposal, including robber, miner, farmer, construction worker and fireman, to help maintain their secret identity. As a LEGO police officer, Chase is skilled at hand-to-hand combat, platforming and free-running.

LEGO CITY Undercover

The gameplay of Undercover is often compared to that of the Grand Theft Auto series, but with a lightheartedness familiar to LEGO fans. It was reviewed favorably by many publications and holds an 80% on Metacritic with an 8.2 average user score.

Since it was a former Wii U title, it will be interesting to see if the developers change much of the design. The Wii U game pad tablet was used as the player's map, communicator, and scanning device, so these functions will have to be reintegrated back into a regular controller. Hopefully we can expect some of the problems that plagued the original, like long load times, to be relieved in its newer counterpart.

We'll just have to see when LEGO CITY Undercover launches on Xbox One in spring 2017.
