When Gears of War 4
was first announced
as a Play Anywhere title, offering a unique experience across Xbox One and Windows 10, both its fans and developers were adamant about keeping any competitive modes separate. While both have very passionate and skilled communities, mouse and keyboard peripherals are typically regarded as giving an edge over a controller in a shooter. While The Coalition isn't making any decisive changes yet, they will be hosting a test run weekend, offering competitive versus play between Xbox One and Windows 10 for the first time in Gears of War 4
While players can already enjoy co-op bot games, Horde mode and campaign with users from either platform, this is the first time crossplay is being tested in Versus mode. The developers emphasize the test nature of upcoming weekend, saying that "conserving a fair, competitive environment remains a top priority for us." It's also completely optional for players and will be segregated into its own playlist. To encourage gamers to participate, thus giving The Coalition more valuable data, they are offering more than doubled win XP and more than seven times the usual amount of loss XP. You'll also be able to queue as a party of five in this social playlist, which is normally restricted to ranked and competitive modes.
PC and Xbox players can matchmake together in this special Versus Playlist from Friday December 2nd - Monday December 5th.
- Playlist Type: Social
- Modes: Team Deathmatch, Dodgeball, King of the Hill
- Maps: All (including Checkout and Dry Dock)
- Win XP: 1500 (up from 600)
- Loss XP: 750 (up from 100)
- Maximum Squad Size: 5
The special crossplay playlist goes live on Friday, December 2nd and will be active until Monday, December 5th. The Coalition encourages anyone who participates in the weekend to give their detailed feedback on the Gears of War forums
