TA Community Interview – Joshatron1205

By Sam Quirke, 3 months ago
2016 is nearly over, and it's nearly time for this particular Community Interviewer to take a break and do traditional festive things, like forcing my loved ones to play Overcooked. Before I hibernate until 2017, there is time for one last interview.

This week we have Joshatron1205 on the hot seat. He's happy to tell all... except whatever went down in that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition boosting session...

Tell us about your gamertag.
Embarrassingly enough my Gamertag is from my old YouTube channel where I uploaded terrible vlogs, even then it was just a YouTube suggested username because the one I wanted was taken, but I liked it enough to stick with me and I use it for pretty much everything these days.
And your gamer pic – any story behind that?
When I got my first Xbox 360 in 2014, I was a PS3 guy until Achievement Hunter converted me to the green side, the only game I got with it was Halo 4 so I played the Multiplayer religiously and really got into the Halo series so Master Chief and Cortana are my two gamer pictures.
How long have you been gaming? What's your earliest memory of a game?
I've been gaming as long as I can remember, I have no idea where I got some of my consoles and games from but the earliest memory I have of gaming is playing a really bad South Park game on my Dreamcast, I played for hours. I also had a really cheap PC where I played pinball and the Pokémon trading card game, good times.
Tell us about your home/family life. What do they have to say about your gaming habits?
My parents wouldn't know a Controller if I threw one at their heads but they've always let me get on with it and bought me games and consoles when I was kid which I'm thankful for, they might be a little more resistant if they knew how much I spent on games over the years.
What are you doing when you're not gaming? What pays the bills, and what are your hobbies?
I spent the last 4 years in the construction trade but quit in September because it was terrible and I'm now in the process of finding something new.
What real life achievement would you like to give yourself some Gamerscore for? Tell us about it.
This is the part where I realise that I haven't achieved anything so far I guess, I once got a certificate for rowing when I was 11. 5g please...
What’s your favorite game of all time on any console, and why?
How does anyone answer this question? I suppose I'd have to say Timesplitters 2, me and my mate Kyle would play split screen multiplayer with the AI for hours. I'd also have to say Pokémon Gold and more recently Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has consumed my life.
What part of the world do you live in? What would you recommend to a visitor, and what kind of game would you set there?
I live in a small town in the West Midlands called Lye, it's pretty bad. I'd recommend any visitors turn around as quickly as possible. I would however like to see a Burnout style racing game take place around my area. The spaghetti junction would be awesome to drive round.
Any games you regret putting on your gamertag?
Dark Souls. Dark Souls. Dark Souls. Forever an example of how bad I am at games.
What is your proudest Xbox achievement, and why?
Tough one, I have...

Halo 5: GuardiansLone WolfThe Lone Wolf achievement in Halo 5: Guardians worth 263 pointsComplete every Mission of the game by yourself on Legendary difficulty.

Halo: The Master Chief CollectionLone Wolf LegendThe Lone Wolf Legend achievement in Halo: The Master Chief Collection worth 126 pointsHalo 4: Complete every level of the game on Legendary difficulty, by yourself.

...but they weren't that hard, I'd say...

Rock Band BlitzPrecious MedalThe Precious Medal achievement in Rock Band Blitz worth 95 pointsEarn Gold stars on every song included with Rock Band Blitz.

...is probably the hardest achievement i've got to date, so much effort.
Do you have a favourite – one you found particularly enjoyable?
I enjoyed:

Blue EstateGolden BulletsThe Golden Bullets achievement in Blue Estate worth 210 pointsArcade - Get the golden AK-47 once in all levels, on Abnormal.

I really loved that game and it was a real surprise.
Which 100% completion are you most proud of, and why?
FIFA 14 (Xbox 360) being as it was the first game I ever played on an Xbox.
Do you have any particular gaming pet peeves?
Obviously things like DLC and season passes boil my blood but everyone says that so I'll go with the lack of good video Game movies, how difficult can it be to make a decent video game movie? Assassin's Creed better be good.
What is your favourite aspect of gaming, or being a gamer? What keeps you playing?
Noticing my own improvement, I went back to play Watch_Dogs recently to try and get...

Watch_DogsSocial LubricantThe Social Lubricant achievement in Watch_Dogs worth 53 pointsComplete level 10 against all 3 Drinking Game opponents

...because of how much trouble it gave me back in 2014. I got the achievement in no time.
What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?
South Park: The Fractured but Whole, I loved South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360), had to play it three times to 1000 point it but didn't mind in the slightest.
What game(s) are you currently playing? How are you finding them?
To my shame I'm trying to 1000 point Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight, it's frustrating. I'm also playing Rainbow Six as usual and Outland which is really fun, real surprise, glad it was free this month.
Now, let's put you in a game. What would your character build be? What skills would you have?
I'd be a heavy weapons specialist or maybe a Halo Brute being as I'm a big unit, 6ft 2 - 20 Stone. Hand me my minigun.
You can bring along one weapon and one character from another game to help you out. What are your choices and why?
I'd take the crossbow from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Ezio to use it. I'd love to hang out with him even if I would be slowing him down.
What enemy or boss would you really hope to avoid?
The Flood, I don't think I'd cope very well with that, I'd be crying in a corner somewhere waiting for the sweet release of death. Don't think Ezio would be much use against them either.
Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?
Having a bit of a brain fart here, Connor from Assassin's Creed III ? I don't think anyone will miss him.
Apart from infinite lives, what gameplay feature do you wish you could make use of in real life?
Cheat codes for sure, give me the infinite money cheat any day.
Do you prefer single player or multi-player?
More recently I've been playing more multiplayer, Titanfall 2 and Rainbow Six but my Xbox Live Gold is about to run out so I guess I'll have to get back into single player.
Do you have a favourite group of friends you like to play with in multi-player? If so, how did you meet?
Not really, I'd rather jump into public lobbies on my own and meet people while I'm playing, Rainbow Six Siege was great for it, met so many cool people playing that.
Any particularly memorable online experiences – good or bad?
Grinding Gears of War: Ultimate Edition With a group on TA, one of the funniest things I've seen... can't really say too much about it.
If you could have a gaming session with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I'd like to play Uno with Achievement Hunter haha, cant think of anything better. Maybe playing Guitar Hero with Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro.
Outside of games, what are your other media habits? Do you have favourite books, TV series, movies or podcasts?
I'm not a reader at all, watch a lot of Netflix, currently going back through Breaking Bad with my family but my favourite show at the minute is Black Mirror. Film wise I love Pulp Fiction, Superbad, The Dark Knight.
Is there a book, movie or TV show that you'd really like to see adapted into a game? I'll accept ones that have tried and failed, but only if you tell me how you'd fix it!

I had a great answer for this recently but it's totally escaped me, might have been Luke Cage. I'd like to see a genuinely good Sherlock Holmes game set in an open world like Assassin's Creed Syndicate with actual gameplay.
Do you own other consoles? What are your favorites on those platforms?
I own a DS which I don't use and a PS4 which I mainly use as an entertainment hub for the living room.
Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to, but let you down when you played it? Equally, have you had any pleasant surprises from games you took a gamble on?
DOOM was my biggest surprise, when the review copies were kept back I was expecting a really hollow game but it turned out to be one of the best games of the year. I was really let down by Tom Clancy's The Division, I was hoping for a really in-depth survival shooter but it got old very quickly.
Tell us about your gaming set-up.
My gaming set up is nothing special, just my TV on top of a cabinet with the Xboxes in the cabinet. I tend to buy games digitally now so I only have a few physical copies, to make up for this I took a photo of my special editions.

How do you primarily use TA? (Tracking, walkthroughs, solutions, sessions?)
The biggest thing I'm using TA for at the minute is tracking my achievement streak, I'm up to 737 days now and its really become part of my daily routine, wake up, get achievement, update TA.
How has your gaming changed or evolved since coming to TA?
If anything I've become more relaxed, when I first joined I had the idea in my head that I'd 1000 point everything but that idea quickly went out the window, now I mainly play for fun, get my daily achievement and make sure I don't get burnt out.
What do you like about TA? Anything you would change?
For what I use it for its perfect, just for keeping track of my achievements and making/joining game sessions it's great.
How did you learn about TA? Have you signed up any friends to the website?
I originally just used it when I was stuck on an achievement and eventually made an account and explored the site a bit more, I haven't signed anyone up, everyone still thinks achievement hunting is mad.
Have you made friends here?
Yeah I've played games with a lot of people from the site and met some cool people, my mic's been out of action for a while so I've not been joining sessions.
Imagine your perfect game, tailor-made just for you. What would it be like?
Rockstar Pokémon, I mean just imagine it....
On the subject of Pokémon - have you spent any time with Sun and Moon yet? If not, are you planning to?
I haven't touched sun and moon because I don't have a 3DS, depending on whether the Switch secures some great third party games I'll pick one up and play it on there.
What kind of achievements do you like to see in a new list? Any common achievement types that you find especially irritating?
I like achievements for doing unusual things in games, like killing a guard with a broom in Assassins Creed, difficulty based achievements are good too as they're the best ones to show off. I hate co-op achievements, I don't really play games co-op I'd much rather play multiplayer. Don't punish me for having no friends.
Do you have a claim to fame in gaming? If so, what is it?
I wish...

Is there anything in particular you want the TA community to know about you?
I'm a lean mean gaming machine.
Is there anything I haven’t asked that you want to talk about?
The Game Awards... They're awful.
Alright, let's expand on the awfulness of The Game Awards. What do you think they need to do with them, or would we be better off without them?
I'd just get rid of The Game Awards, I don't think the industry needs an annual awards show especially when it's just an advertising love-in. There are some great YouTubers making award videos that do a much better job talking about why the games win and less about razor blades.
Any shout-outs you want to make before we go?
I want to shout out Master Chief for being so badass
Geoff Ramsey for being the reason I bought an Xbox One
Ray Narvaez Jnr for being better than me in every way.
And my boy Rick Grimes...keep up the good work.
