If you haven't checked out the alternate reality game
introducing Oddworld: Soulstorm
, it's a pretty neat affair. The community is busy uncovering clues, deciphering distorted audio and piecing together shattered images. Once they've done this to the developers' satisfaction, Oddworld Inhabitants will reward the community with a screenshot of the upcoming title. After cracking the code and being able to uncover the first image
, today players have been rewarded with the fruits of their labor — a second image.
The journey involved a couple key parties, like a mysterious Mudokon named Ed and a group called the Spirit of 1029, who have been communicating with players via Twitter. Things aren't sounding good on the Mudokon front; this time, Ed's message pleaded for help. Later, Ed said he was alive, but his friend Asset 98 had been "terminated." The Spirit of 1029 were as cryptic as ever but still maintain that they only have the Mudokons' best interests at heart.
As for the image... well, this Mudokon doesn't look to be in a good spot. Is it perhaps Ed? Are all of the Mudokons doomed to meet the same fate as Asset 98? We don't know, but this is only image two of five, and they are steadily getting more horrific.Oddworld: Soulstorm
is supposed to release in the second half of 2017 but has continued to be somewhat shrouded in mystery. In fact, Oddworld Inhabitants hasn't even revealed what platforms it'll be available on, but we're hoping Xbox One is among them.
