Norse mythology and paranormal activity may seem like an odd combination, but that's exactly what Monster Couch are meshing in the upcoming game Die for Valhalla!
. Though the title has been in development for more than a year, the developers recently took to Kickstarter to finish up the funding process. After surpassing their $5,600 goal, Monster Couch revealed the game will be available this spring.
Die for Valhalla! is a beat-'em-up where players are Valkyrie, a ghost sent to help the Vikings with an unwanted invasion. Valkyrie has the power to summon various heroes from Valhalla which they can then control. Players will have to make sure to get the most out of these summons before they inevitably "die for Valhalla," as the name suggests. There is also a leveling up aspect as well as gaining new abilities and powers.
While players can solve the mystery behind the invasion in the story mode, there is also a mode called Last Valkyrie Standing in which waves of enemies can be battled. Gamers can compete against each other or the AI to become the last one standing. Last Valkyrie Standing was unlocked thanks to the Kickstarter campaign meeting its first stretch goal.
If the graphics are screaming "Castle Crashers
," they should be. According to Monster Couch, they give props to The Behemoth for "reintroducing beat ‘em ups to a wide audience" and say "Its graphical variety and game execution are something we strive for in Die for Valhalla!
." Other inspirations include Golden Axe
and Diablo II
Die for Valhalla!
is coming to Xbox One in the spring of 2017.
