Horizontal Shmup Super Hydorah Announced for Xbox One

Don't be surprised if Super Hydorah looks more like it belongs on a CRT monitor than on your 50" LED 4K TV; that's intentional!

Super Hydorah, a horizontal shmup inspired by the likes of Gradius and R-Type, is a new edition of Hydorah, a game developer Locomalito originally released as freeware. It's recently been announced to be coming to Xbox One via the ID@Xbox program.

Like the classics, Hydorah is excruciatingly challenging. The Super version boasts more "21 levels divided into 35 sublevels, 35 bosses and more than 100 enemies," nonlinear levels with multiple routes, weapons and powerups, an original soundtrack with more than 60 tunes, secrets and more. There's also the CRT monitor effect that wasn't present in the original version.

The enemy in Super Hydorah are the Meroptians. They're part-human, part-mech and all about taking over your planet.

Super Hydorah doesn't have a release date, but the developers have recently took to conventions like GDC 2017 and the ID@Xbox Showcase in Madrid to show off more of the game, so perhaps we will have new information soon.
