Weekend Headlines March 17-19th: Prey, Paladins, The Surge and More

By Rebecca Smith,
SXSW may not have brought along many announcements but it did bring along a fair amount of news for other titles. Here's the lowdown on everything that you may have missed over the weekend:

Almighty: Kill Your Gods

Almighty will have different types of Guardians for players to encounter. Developer Runwild Entertainment shared a prototype of the Behemoth Guardian. There is still work to do on the character, including its final appearance.

Anamorphine

After a year of silence, developer Artifact 5 introduced a new story trailer for their upcoming Adventure title. Tyler is a young man who is in post-traumatic denial. His wife Elena was the victim of an accident that has left her unable to express her emotions or return to her livelihood. Through his memories, Tyler is revisiting several milestones in his relationship with his wife, but his anguish, guilt and inability to help Elena cope with her depression warps his memories. Can he confront the past and move on, or will it consume him?

Blackwood Crossing

Blackwood Crossing is a title that is quite surreal. The story is driven by rules and logic that wouldn't ever apply in the real world. The game has mysterious characters that wear masks, and juxtaposed locations like the train carriage that has a tree growing out of it. You can get a look at some of this surrealism in the screenshots below.

Caveman Warriors

Not only will our brave cave folk have to face dinosaurs and other cannibals, they'll also have to face more unusual enemies like angry motor riders and the Cross Bone Army. The latter will outnumber you but that shouldn't be a problem, right?

Lost Ember

We've had a few months of silence since this title was successfully funded on Kickstarter, but Mooneye Studios has made up for this with a developer diary showing everything that they've been up to since that point. Plans for the world, animals and story are finalised and a very basic build of the world has been created. Take a look at how they're getting on:

Munch Time 2

You may have been forgiven for forgetting about this upcoming platformer seeing as nearly two years have passed since we heard from it. Well, development has been ticking over for the last three years and will be appearing on Xbox One in the future. For now, the game has been added to Steam Greenlight and to help the title along, developer Gamistry Games has released a plethora of new screens. Take a look:

Paladins: Champions of the Realm

The next champion to enter the realm proves that nobody escapes the reaches of the law. Meet Lex, the Hand of Justice.

Pixel Noir

Despite this trailer's claim that Pixel Noir is arriving "soon", we're not expecting to see the title until the early months of 2018. At least we have some new gameplay footage to view for the RPG-inspired detective game:

Prey

Those of you who hate spoilers should move on to the next title in the list because below lies the first 35 minutes of Prey. It's Morgan's first day on the job, but he has a suspicion that everything may not be as it seems. Then all hell breaks loose and his world comes crashing down. Can he survive?

Snake Pass

Sumo Digital released the second developer diary for their upcoming slithering platformer. The team looks at the technical features that players wouldn't usually notice but make a massive difference to the way that the game runs, such as character movements, lighting and even the grass.

The Surge

After players witnessed Warren's first day at the office, this new trailer shows him battling mechanical foes as he progresses deeper into the CREO complex. Robots have gone haywire, his augmented co-workers have gone insane and the AI has gone rogue. Could it get much worse?

The Town of Light and Victor Vran

Publisher Wired Productions has teamed up with THQ Nordic to make sure that both of these titles make their way to retail. The Xbox One version of The Town of Light will include new puzzles, extra story and interactive elements, reworked voice dialogue, and an overhaul of the graphics and user interface. Meanwhile, the Victor Vran: Overkill Edition will include the original title and its two expansions, "Fractured Worlds" and "Motörhead: Through the Ages", all with visual enhancements. Both titles will be released this spring.

We Happy Few

The latest trailer for Compulsion Games' title introduces the Doctor. The character isn't finished yet, especially when it comes to his AI, but at least you can see the sort of madness that will soon be coming to the game.
