Marvel Heroes Omega Announced for Consoles

By Kelly Packard,
The free-to-play games market on consoles continues to expand. Gazillion has announced their PC MMO centered around the Marvel universe, Marvel Heroes, will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 in the form of Marvel Heroes Omega.

As one would expect, Marvel Heroes lets players step into the shoes of a Marvel superhero from an MMO perspective. The game features both leveling and crafting systems, PvE and PvP and story content, all with the backdrop of famous locales from the Marvel universe. It's been available on PC since 2013 and with the console announcement Gazillion also confirmed both PC and console support will continue "for years to come."

The console releases will be staggered and the PS4 release appears to be coming first, though it's not clear by how much, according to Gazillion's FAQ. A closed beta on PS4 is scheduled to begin "soon" with bonuses for PlayStation Plus members. There are, however, plans for an Xbox One closed beta, but no dates been announced yet. The console releases are scheduled for "Spring 2017," which is, well, now.

As far as the Xbox One and PS4 versions are concerned, Gazillion is making sure not to bite off more than they can chew. This was their explanation for the staggered releases. Omega also won't be launching with the full roster of 60 heroes from the PC version and will instead be launching with 38. Two of the characters, Iron Fist and War Machine, "will be exclusive to the Founder’s Pack for a 6-month period." Exact details of the Founder's Pack have yet to be announced for consoles.

They've also gone ahead and answered the most-asked question that pops up when PC games make their way over to console — nope, there will not be cross-platform play and nothing will transfer from players' PC accounts.
